I don’t disagree that there’s a certain smugness to modern American liberalism. I don’t think Gawker Media and its family of self-justifying blogs, that dabble in the occasional homophobic hit piece against their rivals, do liberalism a lot of favors.

I’ve got a boisterous Republican family member on Facebook. He was a Cruz fan, now “reluctantly supports Trump”. There’s no talking to these people without them shouting “you don’t think I’m capable of voting my mind?”. Anything you say or do comes off as paternal hectoring.

Actually I think she might be pokemon.

Okay, I don’t want to jump to conclusions or anything. But I’ve noticed something when it comes to the dynamic between men and women in our society where women are expected to always move out of the way for men. I’ve bumped into SEVERAL men on the street recently because I’ve kind of realized I don’t need to move out

When we first moved in together my boyfriend ate my leftover thai food while I was at work once.

Also, men who don’t realize how gendered food and food-sharing are. She’s a “pig” now. Fucking hell.

The thing is, he wanted chicken, she bought him chicken, she asked if he wanted pizza, he said no, he nibbled hers, pretended he didn’t want any, and then ate the original fucking thing anyway when she bought herself a whole other slice. This fucking guy is too much work, he’s a goddamned liar, and he can fuck off

Jia:

I’ve always believed that Trump doesn’t really know what being president entails. He views the presidency as being CEO of the country, and that’s what he wants to be. The problem is that Trump is really, really bad at being a CEO.

God bless you. We must never let this die.

Definitely. This is a weird hybrid of straight-up lie and humblebrag. Like, ‘teehee, oh me, I never eat pasta but it’s just because I’m weird lol, not because I’m promoting a restrictive ‘lifestyle’ or anything’.

She sounds insufferable to go out to dinner with. I can accommodate just about anyone’s dietary/alcohol needs when it comes to restaurant suggestion but no pasta? What else doesn’t she eat?

Uh, I don’t think that the employee is impossibly sympathetic, neither do I think that the manager is unbelievably evil.

You’ve been very lucky with your bosses if this doesn’t ring true to you.

Cancun Inn/Sugar Loaf village are in my hometown (Warwick, NY). I don’t know the woman, but many people in town will tell you that Alvin Goldstein is a fucking nutjob. I’ve been to this restaurant. Many of my classmates in high school worked there. I’ve only ever experienced warmth and good service at this place.

They were refused because they were belligerent drunks.

Who says this is an advice/solution column for you to feel better about your life? This doesn’t have anything to do with you, it’s just a woman telling a story.

There’s nothing wrong with deciding you want to implement serious change in your life, but knowing if you stay in your somewhat structured current reality, that may never happen. A radical departure for a period of time can help shape decisions about the future and become grounding. New perspectives, people,

To be fair, though, I read this as less running away and more I’m going to give something I always wanted to do a try. She worked and saved for her goal, she didn’t ask her mom to foot any bills, she planned, she seems to be supporting herself and doing what she wanted to do.
