Natural gas is already vastly cheaper than petroleum to use as an electricity source. And the electrical grid is going to need to be ramped up worldwide; I’m sure that nuclear power is going to be a big part of it, in addition to solar and natural gas and hydroelectric.
Cost of gasoline is going to skyrocket. Petroleum companies are already finding alternative uses for petroleum because they know that demand for gasoline as an automotive fuel is going to decline. No point in maintaining excess refining capacity for a product people use less and less of.
It’s not really a marketing issue. When gasoline/ diesel starts costing $25 or $30 a gallon — which they will in a few years, no question — people aren’t going to have too much of a choice in the matter.
Honestly this is extremely tempting as a commuter car. Extremely tempting.
