Thanks for the review!
I thought this was kind of a weird drive-by conjecture: “We play fighting games in order to look and feel impressive.” You just kinda drop that like it’s a fact, without any sort of context or follow up. Could you elaborate on that a bit? Who are you speaking for?

Wow, this series looks great! Such a good concept, and Chris is very charismatic! Tbh could use some tighter editing tho

Only one comic this week was not about video games, the Manly Guys one, but this strip was also a repeat. Can you PLEASE line up some substitutions for when the normal comics are on hiatus or indulging in non game-related content? There must be 1000 gaming webcomics out there.

can you please, PLEASE, skip comics when they’re not about games? Manly Guys is the most repeat offender, but Corpse Run is sloughin’ this week too. There must be hundreds of gaming webcomics, why is the round-up always the same few sites, even when the current strips don’t feature gaming??

It’s almost as if that character didn’t exist for the purpose of being stronger than everybody? Stories need these types of roles too!

Lol of course translator Tim is a Gemini. Gorgeous game by the way, thanks for sharing!

Couldn’t help but notice that 3 of the strips this week have nothing to do with video games. The only reason I mention it is because this has happened before, quite a few times. On such occasions, perhaps those comics could be swapped out for other webcomics? I would welcome the chance to be exposed to new gaming

You have to learn to play it off like it’s nothing. I think most people who undergo a self-evidently paranormal experience have that “HOLY SHIT!!!!!” moment, but when you start sharing your experience with people who don’t really know what to do with it, or are upset by it, or are *too* into it, you start downplaying

I doubt the people at this temple are saying that religion isn’t valuable. It’s more likely that they also see the value of modern myths and stories (like One Piece), and are willing to incorporate it into their spiritual worldview.

great list! though i think it would read easier if the footnote text was just found next to the corresponding character. or at the very least, if the footnotes used numbers instead of asterisks. and curious to hear about placement of game & watch in particular

Hey a year ago I wrote an elaboration of this list (in several parts)!

Holy cow, that ant farm metaphor is so compelling! Has Kirk written about that idea at length elsewhere?

Insightful predictions! One error: should read “turn opponent into a 8-HEALTH Ragnaros”

I think articles like this would benefit from multiple screenshots per game.

comparing the serialized comics industries of japan and america really doesn’t make sense. in addition to the totally wide disparity of distribution and sales that you mentioned, manga in japan occupies a very different cultural role than comics in the US. ~40% of all books sold in Japan are manga. there is an

Thank you so much for writing this article! I’ve been thinking a lot about this subject, and it’s wonderful to hear more about it and get some insights from the designers. By the way, does the use of these sensory micro-reward elements have a name? And did you come across any other writing (essayistic or

Ninjago is such a franchise, it feels the same as a Batman or a Star Wars. I think what “remains fresh” about City is the vagueness of the scenes. Without having defined characters and conflicts, there’s more space for the imagination. Ninjago and Nexo have no advantage over Marvel in this regard.

I’m sad that Playmobil is sliding into the liscensing game. In an era where 90% of LEGO sets are based on some million dollar franchise, looking to the playmobil aisle full of classic genre sets was like a healing salve :’(

Retrograde jupiter doesn’t mean that everyone becomes less lucky, it just means that the jovial principles of growth/fortune/expansion are withdrawn from the external world, and invested within. You may feel the universe is dealing you a bad hand if you’re trying to expand your personal empire, but if you focus on

What’s boring about finding these faces cringey? I totally get where Gintoki is coming from -- the faces in this article resemble those found in kodomo (“kids”) manga, which makes sense given the franchise. This style of caricature can look kind of vapid for some people who are more accustomed to drawing styles that
