I’ve always wondered that too. I’d love to see the outtakes, but who would air them? Maybe the comedy equivalent of Penn & Teller — masters of the craft willing to pull the curtain for all to see.

This kind of comedy bit has always struck me as cheap — and not just when people I hate, like fucking Jay Leno, do it; even Sacha Baron Cohen, whom I generally like very much — because yes, absolutely, people will lie rather than look ignorant. Are you kidding me? I used to pull this shit with my friends all the time

These guys don’t get it — in 2018, it should be a Dr. Seuss Cinematic Universe. The Glunk, the Guff Going By and Sylvester McMonkey McBean all deserve trilogies!

You are, of course, exactly right, but now that I think about it, “reboot” and “revival” are metaphorically quite close. A “rebooted” computer has the same software, after all -- unless it’s been updated — though I suppose “update,” in the sense of a fictional work, implies a shift in cultural context or perspective.

Having never seen any of these movies except on TVs at Blockbuster and Virgin Records, I can tell you, they are hilarious. Not necessarily for more than five minutes at a time, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised.

Oh shit, has anyone updated their Wikipedia pages yet?

Tyler Perry has done two very good movies: Star Trek and Gone Girl.

Just like god. Whose boy, Adam, went on to meet world, if I’m not mistaken.

I can’t tell if you’re being serious. You do realize there’s a difference between time and space, right? Aspect ratio and narrative segmentation are independent variables.

It was rhetorical. I was, like, kidding.

Dude you should totally post this to Lifehacker. Also why not just stay there.

I was struggling to make a joke about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and then I remembered Parks & Rec did a number of episodes about a nigh-magical (or so regarded) pony — Li’l Sebastian?. And now I’m trying to work that in. It’s not going very well.

Counterpoint: Who cares?

If it’s worth noting that the found-footage genre is “past its shelf life,” does that mean it’s...technically still on the shelf?

Or those cute Korean curlers with the breakfast-food names who made a real splash at last winter’s Olympics!

I think I actually had better taste when I was 24. It’s a good thing I never got any tattoos, otherwise I might have to live up to them.

I tried one or two of those with no luck. Hotline was amazing, though, if anyone remembers that.

Rumor is he’s actually been playing Thor this whole time. He just needs his special helmet.

I am pleased to say that I recognized her, despite her Twitter pic leaving little room for a neck guitar.

O’Neal recently quoted this same passage in a piece about Enya on Vulture. Apt in both cases.
