Err no. What’s happening is that ESPN has benefitted from an artificially high revenue stream from cable subscribers who paid for ESPN without wanting it or ever watching it.

If you want to be controversial, get yourself on an ad-free subscription-supported distribution network. Advertisers are skittish. There’s a reason broadcast TV is so bland.

A Japanese actress would be a problem in other Asian countries, especially China, where people aren’t really over WWII yet. A white actress is actually a good neutral choice that avoids some serious cultural minefields, in addition to Johansson having a bankable name that will put butts in seats.

The studios know what they’re doing, PCness be damned. This movie will do better even in Asia with a bankable name like Johansson vs. any Asian actress out there. And a white actress avoids the sticky problem of Chinese audiences not particularly being fond of Japanese anything...so what, do you cast a Chinese actor?…

Maybe next time everyone will remember to get off their asses and vote. Too many Americans shrug and figure, oh well one jackass is as good as another...
