Comcast/NBC finally woke up and realized they better stop feeding the Netflix monster.
Also leaving: seasons 7+ of the Hercule Poirot mysteries! Sorry gotta go back to watching them before the 30th...
This is a guerrilla marketing campaign for the HBO series The Deuce, isn’t it?
Supes should be able to get the same effect with a pinky flick.
Humans taste AWFUL.
Cuz some folks can’t eat a whole pizza at once sitting and don’t like cold leftover pizzas for breakfast. Being communists.
I’m not a lawyer but I’ve encountered this sort of thing before in the computer games industry. Even when we don’t want to go after some fan who made an homage to one of our games, the lawyers force us to, and for good reason, considering the way copyright defense is set up. So yeah it’s completely the same in America.
The money this bar would make is puny. What Netflix is really saying is, “you guys need to ask official permission so we can give it, and not open ourselves to claims from Amazon or Hulu that we don’t care about our copyright and it’s okay if they do their own Stranger Things knockoffs.”
Well I’d steer clear of Disney entirely. They have a kennel of attack lawyers at their command.
Yeah, it’s easy enough to figure out how not to fall afoul of corporate brands (and corporations are required to do uncool stuff like get on the case of some bar just doing an homage, or weaken their copyright claim vs. other corporations that might try to do a knockoff show). Don’t use proper nouns like Eleven or…
This is a phenomenal show. Walton Goggins and Danny McBride are great of course, but my favorite character is Belinda. Kimberly Herbert Gregory is a comic genius. Too bad this will only run two seasons but I guess it would be hard to keep up the insane momentum indefinitely.
Kinja is to AVClub as Republicans are to Health Care.
Emmys, what’s that?
Another thought: why not set one story in modern Russia? There’s got to be a couple people in Russia at this point who think they are descended from the Czar and nowadays with Russia’s return to traditionalism and nationalism, they might be well regarded, rather than lined up and shot.
I was wondering about that (and also wondering why all the characters absolutely need to be white?) But weren’t the Romanoffs actually not very much Russian ethnically considering that they were the result of intermarriage with other European royal houses? Pretty close relatives of Queen Victoria (you can tell the…
If you have 6-10 individual stories to tell, then it could work. Each would need a unique angle, that’s all.
I absolutely love the cast they’re assembling for this, but wouldn’t you think that in several generations, some of the Czar’s descendants (real or delusional) might be not 100% white at this point? I’m not trying to be PC. It just seems like an interesting angle that they’re ignoring. What if some black guy keeps…
If the surveyors didn’t make special efforts to include mobile phone users (who can easily screen calls and avoid any unfamiliar numbers), then it’s a sure bet that they were interviewing grandma and grandpa on their land line.
Ok seriously, you’re kidding...just googled it...oh my God...I really thought you were kidding.
