Bubble is right. We’re all in our own little cultural bubbles now because there is too much out there to follow. I know all the TV show titles mentioned (even if I haven’t yet watched most of them), hear about most of the big movies (but watch only handful) and have close to zero knowledge of popular music, electronic

TV is evolving towards ever-increasing numbers of niche shows in lieu of a few big popular shows like in the past. The future is The OA, not NCIS. That’s why CBS is desperately trying to get their streaming service up on its feet (using its biggest “niche” brand: Star Trek).

Go to a mall and ask people what The Uncharted or Red Dead Redemption are. You’ll get a lot of blank looks.

Music’s a great example. My tastes have evolved so that I only like classical and Phillip Glass, occasionally jazz. If I saw a list of the Grammy nominees, I might recognize some names from tabloid magazine covers in the grocery store checkout line, but I wouldn’t have any idea about the nominated songs. I couldn’t

Nobody can tell what is or isn’t heavily promoted on Netflix to everyone, just what is heavily promoted to them. If Netflix thinks you are the sort of person who likes Aziz Ansari (for instance, you watched and thumbs-uped Parks & Rec), then they will promote Master of None to you. I’m sure there are many people

Awesome suggestion to make a SSA account before credit freeze but the SSA site is so bad it just locked me out for no good reason. Not sure it’s worth waiting for them to get their act together before doing a credit freeze.

Hellooooo Hellboy!

I like the notion that Darth Vader had a child born just before the events of Return of the Jedi. Hey he didn’t get all his body parts burnt off did he???

Obi-Wan’s granddaughter. The giveaway hint: they made John Boyaga lose his accent but didn’t bother to do the same with Daisy Ridley. Why bother with people’s accents at all, they aren’t really speaking English? Because it’s a hint about their ancestry.

Just have Billie Lourde be the recast Leia. We know it’s coming. At least this way it’s harder to complain.

Wait for the whole first season to be available next spring, subscribe for a month, binge-watch and cancel. Repeat next year. That’s what $12 for a whole year of Star Trek, ad-free? Sounds like a fair price.

I hope folks realize that they don’t have to do faux-medieval fantasy to get the GoT effect. Anything with a big budget, eye candy, imagination and an expansive vision could qualify. Space based sci fi is a huge possibility.

They don’t know any better.

Yeah well this DOES suck.

Amazon needs to not be literal about this. Don’t make a copy cat show with armor and dragons. Make a badass violent militaristic space opera with a horrific alien foe. Basically, Starship Troopers but without the failed attempt at satire, or The Expanse with less space politics and a bigger budget.

A lot of foreign audiences love that shit all across the world. Hollywood will keep making their shit for them. I guess we can just let American movie theaters go bankrupt...

That’s it. People are blocking out so many ads that films (and TV shows) simply don’t get any awareness, except for word of mouth, which is more likely to be negative than positive.

This sort of thing could get out of hand. I could claim to be Steve Jobs’ illegitimate offspring and hey why not it’s not outside the realm of possibility. Dig him up and test him. Nope? Hey where’s old John D. Rockefeller buried anyway...?

CBS doesn’t lack confidence in Star Trek. Just the reverse, they are using Star Trek to try to save their butts.

So basically a tsunami of network crap, with everything watchable behind paywalls on cable or streaming. Gotcha.
