Kudos to the artist. Captured that Rockwell aesthetic perfectly.

It’s amazing they haven’t been in a movie together before now. Or have they????

I want a movie that is just Keanu and Kevin Costner, sitting and talking to each other in their versions of what passes for an English accent.

Perfect casting.

It might be a challenge, but there must be a way to draw on a $20 to make Andrew Jackson look something resembling Harriet Tubman although it would be much easier if the goal were Barnabas Collins...

I’ve been naying so much, I’m getting horse.

Just get Amazon and Netflix and pirate the rest.

This doofus was trying to create a story for his cameraman. People looting a supermarket is not as good as cops arresting people looting a supermarket.

awww poor Chris Pine.

This Xmas, Star Wars will make another billion bucks. People (not just Americans) want big brand names that have proven they can deliver reliable entertainment. Not too different from the reason people go to McDonald’s - not for great food but because they know how it will taste and that it will be just the same as

Do they make more money? Hollywood only takes in 25% of what they would make for the same ticket sold in the US. So they would have to do four times as well in China just to be equal.

Valerian was none of those and neither was The Dark Tower. Both flopped. What worked was superheroes and sequels. Can’t blame Hollywood for getting the message.

Americans will still go to see movies as long as there is some overwhelmingly compelling reason because they have a monster brand, are something they really love, feature a favorite actor etc. When the next Star Wars hits, it’ll make a billion and so will the Han Solo movie whether you like it or not.

This movie would have bombed hard at the box office. Just doesn’t have anything to motivate people into the movie theater. But motivate someone sitting on a couch to click Play? Sure why not. It works great for that purpose. They should do more.

I didn’t get the idea that Light had become sociopathic. However, he does have a huge dilemma. Ryuk threatened to have Light become the next victim if Light ever relinquishes the notebook. Ryuk could easily have Light’s dad killed the same way.

I wondered about the paper, too. I know the notebook exerts mind control, but how the heck do you control the mind of a piece of paper?!? I wondered if there was some rule in the notebook that they hadn’t yet told me about.

I agree, the story made sense if you assume that Light is naive and sort of a dolt and Mia is a vapid cheerleader who unleashes her inner psycho. Neither seem to have much awareness of consequences and stuff. Seems very realistic about the adolescent mindset.

The summary is: dumb, naive teenager gets in way way way over his head in an attempt to impress a pretty girl who turns out to be sort of a psycho. Hijinks ensue.

Despite all the screaming, it wasn’t the worst thing ever or even the worst thing I’ve watched and enjoyed on Netflix (The OA sets a very high bar). It was fast-paced (too fast-paced) and generally enjoyable. I decided it must be an origin story that just sets things up for an actual series or maybe just some more

And Rhett - who may be an asshole but at least he’s a smart and perceptive one - makes the point of saying that Mammy is one of the few people he’s met whose opinion he gives a fuck about.
