I think Miyazaki lives in a perpetual state of quiet mortification anyway...

I was expecting a glider too but that’s only because of BotW. The end of the tutorial leads you down a long one-way path to an utter dead end where you get a cutscene, and the only thing you can do from there is follow the waterfalls down. You are taught a couple times that you can fall into water from any height

Was that esoteric? I thought that was intended, it seemed so natural!

Nah, that’s fully on you for turning the HUD off

The button prompts to detach and rotate appear onscreen every time you use Ultrahand.

You’re not, though the tone of this article (ridiculously) implies so. Enjoy the game at your own pace. That’s how it was designed to be played.

you’re blaming the game because you somehow instantly turned off the HUD and then couldn’t figure out what to do?

I guess I’m in the minority here, but I thought that the Great Sky Island was a genius section of game design. It flowed naturally and felt like it trusted the player to figure it out, and left multiple paths forward for quite a few areas (including that last shrine, which I do admit was a doozy). But all of that was

I agree with your point about wanting to fight things in TOTK. In BOTW I’d avoid a lot of the smaller encounters because I didn’t want to waste my weapons, but in TOTK I’m seeking them out so I can make more weapons. I’m also always on the lookout for keese. Those snipe arrows are so good.

I dunno, I thought it was fine? It took me probably four or five hours total, and that included spending a while trying to figure out where the third shrine is. But I realized that there are clever suggestions in the environment for more quickly getting around - like after one of the shrines (#3?) there’s an area with

Great list, Claire! Mine is quite similar We have HL2/WoW and a few others in common. I also automatically install Heroes of the Storm (because it’s my most played game) and Chivalry 2 because it’s hilarious.

I own one of those 15. I don’t plan on buying the other 14. Flavors for different play style preferences, which is good. Good list.

I would replace the Final Fantasy games with Quake 1 and EverQuest. Otherwise I think it is a fun list.

> Even in the original game, it was made abundantly clear that Aerith’s “crush” on Cloud was just a reflection of how much the latter reminded her of Zack.

Sadly it’s appropriate for Kotaku to cover this as twitch is a platform tied to gaming culture and many people like to use it and these asshats behaviour impacts the ecosystem. That said, it’s exactly why I’ll NEVER use twitch other than to watch friends.

This article is really scummy. I’ve always enjoyed your content Zack, but this article made me lose some respect for you. The game literally just released yesterday for crying out loud. Genuinely shitty article to post. At least wait a few months.

You’re saying a company is not entitled to make money on a product they released one day ago?

I’m not fond of articles like these. The tone is encouraging persons to pirate the game.

I didn’t have the exact words for why this article made me uneasy, but this is it. You nailed it. I support archival and even deeper rights for the end user of software than currently exist, but this... this feels wrong.

Older games, I can understand - but encouraging the torrenting/pirating of a game one day after its’ release? For fuck’s sake.
