A great and intriguing concept, reminds me of an old sci-fi story about a pilot romancing a different woman due to time dilation/speed of light issues and some of the Vernor Vinge ideas... but sadly it's wasted on a story about 17 yr old protagonist.

Most sport is dull and boring, football doubly so.

It's not YA but teenage heroes/heroines I can't stand. I remember as a teenager suddenly having an about face and disliking any books that had main character about my age.
