I work for GM, but this is my personal opinion:

Trio of cyclists: yeah, based on A) California law that requires giving 3ft of space to cyclists and B) their erratic behavior, it makes sense that the car was unwilling to make a passing maneuver. A human may have done differently, but these cars follow the law where

I feel like the whole Uber idea got distorted from the original concept of Joe Schmoe who has a free Friday evening and wants to make a few bucks so he picks up the Uber app and ferries a few people around. Somewhere along the line Joe decided that he liked driving so much that he wanted to do it full-time. When

“Is it still necessary to get a certified pre-owned car inspected?”

If it’s an enthusiast-focused car, 100% absolutely yes AND specifically ask the dealer to check for evidence of any tunes and get it IN WRITING. I purchased a CPO Golf R last year, got a 3rd-party inspection which came back pristine, then the first

With 30 seconds of google and some napkin math, you too could realize that this statement is silly.

Most mainstream password managers work perfectly well with their free accounts. Many have browser extensions that auto-fill saved passwords (if you want, you can turn that on or off). It’s faster and less error-prone than typing it in yourself, and much more secure.

My soul craves a little excitement. I operate an econobox because I was going through a phase a while ago. Austerity, stoicism, frugality, and all that. Now I cry a little inside when I see numerous other vehicle blobs indistinguishable from mine; when I encounter a perfect, sweeping freeway on-ramp that’s begging to

Props to you for detailing your process. It’s great to see how a little scripting/programming knowledge can also enhance jobs that aren’t specifically programmers/IT.

HP 48G buddies! Mine was inherited from my dad who bought it, but just couldn’t give up his 37E.

The black plastic controls for the HVAC and infotainment unit look like they’re straight out of 1994

My favorite deal: 2013-2014 Volt. You can find tons of them with <40K miles for under $14K. 2013 got the 16.5kWh battery which is good for a 38 mile EV range (and of course it has the “backup” generator). If you can charge at home and at work, it’s hard to beat.

Thanks for the title of 1st Gear: “It’s Not The Crime, It’s The Cover-Up

I’m sorry for the poor CAD jockeys who have to make the models of those fluidly-shaped parts.

Thumbs up Tom for suggesting the VSport! I own one, and it never ceases to put a smile on my face when I get to drive it. Great motor, chassis, and if you enjoy racing you’ll appreciate the brakes as well. I’m also a larger dude (6'3" 300lb) and it has just the right amount of space without feeling cavernous.

Neutral: Most likely yes. My current CTS (twin-turbo deliciousness) gets pretty meh gas mileage. It pains me to switch, but with a much longer commute this year I plan on purchasing a 2013 Volt or leasing a Trax/Cruze.

I’d rather CTS V-Sport (Luxury trim $61,250 MSRP) for that kind of money since you’re evidently not a badge snob if you’re shopping Infiniti.

Should have bought a Volt.

If your drive to and from is only 10 minutes (assuming < 19 miles), and you’d be willing to spend a tad more, consider a Volt. It will get you there in all-electric mode and has less of a range degradation problem than the Leaf. There’s a reason why the 2013 Leafs are selling at $9K vs the Volt at $13K.
