The main thing I got out of student government is having to organize our 10 year high school reunion. Blergh.

Excuses presented:

My brain stalled at bacon wrapped twinkie. Holy shit I need to make that happen and get in my mouth NOW.

I am Chinese-American and most likely moving to Sweden in a couple years. I asked a Swedish friend once about what race issues were like and he replied , "Oh don't worry, Asians are the good minorities in Sweden."

Had it for the first time a couple months ago. Hella delicious but damn, my digestive system did NOT like it.

Unfortunately I'm on the west coast (Stanford). The trial got some media coverage recently, so maybe you have heard of it:

I've loved your responses in this thread!

My biggest takeaway from this: io9 is male?

I know what you're trying to get at with placing too much value in superstition and pseudoscience...but the broad strokes and "these people" still made me wince.

I just want to add that one thing that makes me ...confused/hesitant?...is the fact that cDNA (which is made from naturally occurring mRNA) is still potentially patent-able. That means that the parts of the genes that we care about - that make the proteins - are still potentially the property of companies.

I can't wait until induced stem cell technology develops to the point where we can finally make organs for each patient (they can do this by doing skin cells —> stem cells —> lung/liver/whatever awesomeness). Then there wouldn't be any worry about organ rejection or bioethics.

I especially can't get over Trig's name. What are the chances she accidentally names her kid amother name for Down's Syndrome? Mind boggled.

You are conflating several things and have not provided any facts. I am done with discussing this since I feel as if no actual information has been provided.

Alcohol in the East Asian countries are far from weak (and I'm sure it's likewise in the other Asian countries). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_wine It's described as having 18-25% ABV, and I can personally attest to its strength.

Actually the evolutionary theory is really interesting! Alcohol consumption does not make sense since the East Asian countries have a long history of drinking alcohol (rice based ones such as sake - I personally hate the rice wines and avoid them when I visit my relatives in China).

As a biologist, so much of what you are saying is wrong and not based in real science! I'll address why some Asian people flush and get sick. It's NOT because of alcohol poisoning, and it's not because Asian countries recently got alcohol. When alcohol is metabolized, it goes through an aldehyde intermediate.

My mom's first and only attempt to have the sex talk with me was telling me to go into the closet, where I found a bag full of unused Chinese condoms. I was 25 years old mind you.

Just want to put this out there since I'm seeing a lot of misuse of terminology and its driving the biologist in me nuts.

They should post pictures of developing and end stage melanomas on the tanning beds. That way it'll deter people from tanning AND let them know what abnormalities to look out for. (Whatever happened to the graphic images for cigarette packages anyway?)

I completely agree!
