Google a chart of the tuition history for the UCs. It was $4000 in 2000. Now it's $13,000. Back then the state was paying more than half the cost of a university education. Now it isn't. Someone who got their degree ten years ago should be more understanding of paying more taxes in exchange for their K-12 and UC

California's property tax is actually lower than 36 other states based on median real estate taxes as a percent of median home value and rank for 2008. That's 0.61%. The number 1 state with 1.76% is Texas.

The phone is worth much more than $200. You're on a two year contract paying more per month to pay back the subsidy. A simpler example is a phone sold for one penny but worth a hundred dollars. If California didn't collect tax on that penny phone, it would create a large loophole many companies would exploit charging

Statistically most people have poor aim when in a scary situation like a break-in. Could the laser be modified with a camera lens to spread the beam and not permanently blind an attacker? Something like a one foot circle at forty feet. Sweeping that beam at an attacker is far more likely to hit him.

Perhaps the vast majority of the time the surfers are conscious, so this was designed to maximize their survivability.

The G12 is $465 on amazon, so $1395 when tripled. It's zoom is 28-140mm equivalent. The Panasonic is $750 + 450, so $1200 for camera and both lenses with a range of 14-175mm. So I'll say for 2.5 times the price you do get a very nice zoom range and depth of field. In decent-to-excellent light, the G12 image quality is

So for three times the price of a Canon G12 you can have a body and lenses that still take up considerably more space than it, but take better photos in low light. I'll pass.

I hate to break it to you, but like well, hi5 is right, yeah.

X100 has no zoom at all. X50 has 4x zoom. That's a huge difference for many potential buyers.

If three of the walls are not made out of glass, Jesus Diaz is distorting reality as usual because editors get rewarded for more page views.

Video never shows what it looks like to a driver approaching from a block away. If the rim and tire block most of the light or it just looks like a tiny line of light, that's unsafe.

The protests for Oscar Grant didn't affect "no one". It got media coverage.

Protesting underground in a station is the wrong place for it. On a crowded platform it's more likely someone will fall off the edge to the tracks. It also screws the commute for 100,000+ people. These protestors couldn't manage to organize a protest by going to street level above the the station where wireless

Factoid: Most underground BART stations have only had cell phone service for less than a year. That's right. Until a year ago people had to run to the station agent to call for an emergency.

G+ specifically has a setting to prevent resharing of posts. The only way an employer will see those posts is by directly viewing an account you've shared with. What you share on G+ can be as private as email. If I email you and trust you, I'm not worried an employer is going to see it.

A spotlight but every single user is armed with giant reflective umbrellas. That's what circles is all about. When you post on G+, you select which circles you're sharing with. If you're a scared gay kid you only post gay-related things to your trusted circle of people and no one else.

You clearly don't understand the very core of Google+ is letting you share with certain individuals and circles but not others. You don't share things that will get you fired with your work circle. You don't share things publicly that will interfere with your job search.

It's blacker than burnt.

It's so close to good enough for VR. Imagine if they can make 720p happen for $300 and partner with Microsoft or Sony for a 2013 console launch. The immersion of motion tracking and looking left and right to see a virtual world would be truly mind-blowing. The console would also output to a TV so friends can see
