It still boggles my mind that people see Discord as a replacement for anything other than IRC and the myriad of crap voip software we used before it (Mumble, Teamspeak, Ventrilo etc). As a replacement for those two products it’s actually good. As a replacement for anything else (especially forums and wikis) it is…
We’ll see if that actually happens when it comes down to it and they’re trying to launch a new console without the latest CoD etc.
This. Puerto Rico evolved into San Juan (same role selection mechanics, but now a card game) and then San Juan evolved into Race for the Galaxy. The instant I discovered Race for the Galaxy, Puerto Rico went back onto the shelf and I don’t think it ever came out again.
The thing is, that’s great for games that are all about exploring themes. But this game isn’t about that at all. It’s not exploring anything.
I own a copy of the original release. The “Puerto Rico” element of it is 100% window dressing. It could have been called “Island Traders” or something and no one would have even noticed the fact the worker tokens are all dark brown. The only reason it has this “real world place” theming is because it came out in 2002…
Reddit and Discord have managed to kill forums and we’re all worse off for it.
We did, yes.
Japanese trailer he explicitly says Tifa’s name, I don’t think it’s a line out of context. Rather I think people are reading too much into what a character who is not exactly notable for trustworthiness is saying, right after he talks about Jenova being able to look into people’s memories and deepest fears and…
This. At that point in the game, Cloud’s memory is severely messed up still, and you have to remember that at the points we see Sephiroth in the current timeline, it is not actually directly him, it is a piece of Jenova, or it is one of the many clones being controlled by him. He doesn’t really exist, he’s sort of…
Part of me feels like this has to be the result of a deal that was signed 18 months ago or something and we’re just seeing it now. But on the other hand Squenix is still trying to to push NFTs so maybe EA also hasn’t learned how to read the room yet.
Three. It’s been a *long* time (like, probably closer to 30 years than 20) since I finished it but Pathways is a very underloved game. I actually got into Bungie’s stuff with a Mac shareware demo disk that had Operation Desert Storm on it and played all their stuff afterwards. Alas, they eventually lost me with…
I’d rather they just come up with their own brand new IP and make that an extraction shooter.
There was a run there from the first game through AC4 where the Assassin’s Creed trailers had some really striking musical choices. I remember AC Revelations in particular having an excellent CG trailer.
I’ve been a big fan of the Marathon games since I was a teenager in the 90s, and yes the stories are excellent (especially Marathon: Infinity, which has a non-linear plot involving jumping between multiple different parallel timelines, with weird surreal dream sequence levels that serve as a sort of framing narrative)…
Imagine how bad the emotional rollercoaster was for those of us who were fans of the original games back in the day, seeing Bungie finally say they’re rebooting story-heavy single-player focused Marathon but then it’s a fucking extraction shooter and the CG trailer has barely even passing resemblance to the original…
A good way to capitalize on a memorable one-word name, mainly. Definitely not reestablishing an old IP given that it looks to have nearly nothing in common with the original Marathon.
Kotaku cherry picked Polygon’s comment on this. Actual full comment:
“The game’s approach to accessibility and difficulty is interesting, too; you’re given a suite of “Timely” items that can be equipped for customized help in certain areas, such as dodge timing, skill selection, or healing. With the most powerful of…
FF13 development was a very obvious shitshow though. Have not seen anything to suggest this has been. It’s fine to be skeptical but at the same time, being skeptical and reading everything in the most bad faith way possible the way Kotaku has been doing recently are pretty different.
I would probably have bought on PC so Digital vs Physical went out the window already (it doesn’t make sense to me for the Console release not to be Physical though - but I am sure that their answer to this will change when LRG or someone else makes an offer). For me it’s that this is funded by Epic so it’s going to…
