I’d be all in it were titled “I’ma Fahkin’ Science Teachah!” and it was Wahlberg and a group of grade school kids using basic science to stop alien invaders.
To a degree yes, but Leto drew even more buzz specifically because he was known as rockstar weirdo (or asshole) persona in real life and had recently won the best supporting actor Oscar a year prior to his casting as Joker. It was a pretty smart move for WB at the time that was going to draw the most attention to what…
The buzz though. Leto as Joker? It’s all anyone was talking about for a solid year before the movie came out and we learned he was in it for 10 minutes. And as bad as the DC “cinematic universe” is the movies are making money and getting exposure. I unabashedly love Tron and Legacy, but they have no exposure. Disney…
A few other comments suggested it being a “spin off” or side story. Which I guess would be good to test the waters.
Exactly. The way I see it: Disney hopes a more bankable star (which I guess you could call Leto in comparison to Garret Hedlund) and absolutely NO need to catch up on backstory would be enough to jump start the franchise again. I also imagine they’re banking on the actual existing fanbase backlash not to be as severe…
Unfortunately even if he is such a creep they might see him as having more of a box office draw than Garret Hedlund or Olivia Wilde.
Perfect. Use.
Sigh...
Just use the Tron: Ascension script to film actual Tron: Ascension instead of making what sounds like Pixels. Otherwise this just feels like a massive fuck you that’s going to alienate the people who are actually gonna show up to this thing - like me and two dozen other fans of Tron and Tron: Legacy - instead of…
At least in Godzilla that said he could feed off of radiation. I’m assuming some of these creatures have that ability and Kong must have some level of radiation resistance so he can eat them. That or Godzilla vs King Kong is going to be even way shorter than expected (discounting that Godzilla already has the height,…
I’m inclined to agree, but I’m also curious to see what could be done with transforming robots outside of Bays spastic hands.
I gotta say I liked this series too, but damn were a few of those books a slog just for the sake of saying “it’s an 18 - 20 book series”.
I want this so badly... but Disney will never pull that trigger. They don’t need a movie with a likely middling performance when you can put Spider-Man or a lightsaber in any mediocre film and make serious bank off merchandising let alone a near guarantee for a large BO opening weekend.
You’re under the impression that I don’t have the same criticism of those franchises either.
They’re really scrapping the bottom of the barrel here. The creative well has run dry. As bad as Prometheus was it at least promised at something different when Noomi Rapace went in search of the Engineers with Michael Fassbender’s head. This is just more of the same.
And this looks like the least necessary one which is saying a lot (unless we count the Alien vs Predator ones setting the lowest bar possible)
Luke Evans can pull off the persona for sure, but I did wince a little when they cut to him for the “intimidating” part of the song as he looked a bit meek in the costume rather than the hulking neanderthal from the animation.
We’re over-trailering things. I felt like the Kong trailer in the last post just gave away way too much. Do I really NEED another GotG vol 2 trailer? I’m on board already. Who are you trying to impress or get into this thing that’s not already?
If we could just scrub all the Kong aspects out of this and replace him with Godzilla I’d be all for this. Or really just put this cast in a Godzilla movie. And if they could have instead made an Aaron Taylor Johnson/King Kong movie I could fully avoid and never have to bother with ever that’d be great.
