@BlueFiberOptics: Darkroom is the only writing app I use, aside from Notepad++ for web work. It's perfect for distraction free writing, I actually don't know what could be added to make it better.

The iPad does not really fit into a proper category. Either it will create one where none previously existed or will fail as a product.
