I don’t know why you are hung up on downforce. Reduces aerodynamic drag improves acceleration and top speed. As well as an assortment of handling improvements.
Not true. As an example, look at the bumpers on ecomodders. They regularly do aero mods which increase frontal area (increasing drag). But the net drag decrease exceeds the losses.

You are talking about one type of aero. Drag inducing aero (such as wings and canards) is for down force. Take a look at that diffuser. It’s primary goal is to fill the rear low pressure wake and therefore reduce drag.
Cue a bunch of comments using spoiler, diffuser, and wing interchangeably.
