You Go Glenn Coco!

Totally! Nuns in my life have always been the take-no-shit kind of sisters, which I appreciate.

I would suggest they start looking for these women amongst artists who mix their own colors. One of the tricks to being an artist is to seeing the color that's there, as opposed to the color you believe or want to be there. It's like coloring all cheeses orange, or all clouds grey - they have different shades, hues,

HA YES!

On the student end, I agree - it is so much easier to stand up for yourself and show them you're not simply going to take it - on the teacher end, there are rules and laws and other bureaucratic things to consider, which really tie your hands as to what kind of discipline you can administer. I'm not saying that kid

I want to hi-five his mom for being such a level-headed, awesome individual, and being open to talking about this kind of stuff with her son. Obviously he's turned out to be a wonderful, accepting child. I'd also like to hi-five him.

And if they are just assholes, which can be the case, you put them on a behavioural plan, and you don't budge an inch, so they learn that they're not the one calling the shots. That doesn't mean get every six year old in the class to hit the little dickwad. It means making measured, reasonable consequences for bad

What?! Well that just sucks. What are you supposed to do, lie there and take it? That never seemed to be the case in my town - but then we were Northern Alberta redneck, so the rules were never all that nuanced.

This sounds like all kinds of whimsical fun. I'd appreciate it if they squawked loudly like birds. Or philosophized on the nature of existence. Or both.

My parents had these handy little rules when it came to fighting and bullies. They served me well all through school.

Soooooooo much continued laughter over this. BEST ARTICLE EVER.

And that's cool if that worked for her - I'm sure corporal punishment was legal at that point and trust me, there are days I would have loved to use it, however, if you remember 'Mrs Crawford' for the awesome way she beat you as a way to teach you about life and crazy people, then Mrs Crawford is probably not someone

Yay good teachers! I had so many good teacher memories - part of the reason why I was one for a while. It's so nice to know when you've impacted someone. Some of my kids see me around the city and come up and say hi and stuff, which is pretty much the best thing ever - One of my kids saw me at the grocery store and

Agree on numerous counts. Better access to school counsellors, a counselling system, and psychologists for students would improve the mental health of not just the students, but the teachers as well.

Discipline doesn't involve a mass beat-down of six-year olds. There are other ways to handle it, ways that would better solve the problem at it's core than simply ending the bullying behaviour.

As a former teacher, this sickens me. Bullying is a form of acting-out. It's attention-seeking behaviour - it means there is *more* going on than just some kid who is a meanie to ther kids. It might mean he has some psychological issues, which the teacher should bring up with the school counsellor, the administration,

Exactly! And yeah - Barbie deserves some cute panties. It's important.

that is the cutest thing I've ever heard. Your grandma is the most adorable.

Right?! what was that? I mean, obviously they were sanitizing it, but I had three brothers who were not shy about wandering around the house sans shorts and scarring their poor sister and mother*, so I knew there should have been a *thing* there - I kept on thinking he'd got himself into some wierd accident, and had

You know this would probably be a hilarious and disturbing study of the sexual psychology of girls and women. Best part? the photographs of the barbies being "caught in the act"!
