It's not the biggest, but I'm going to go with the Dusenberg SJ - 6.9 liter straight 8, dohc - 4 valve in the 1920s and on the SSJ with a supercharger and ram-air intake, they made up to 400hp. That's some nice American engineering to compete with the German's Auto Union!

@Ian Derbyshire: yeah, 2.0L is pretty big. most of these cars were at least available with < 1L engines. 1.5L is getting into conventional car territory.

...wait. uh, is there any advantage whatsoever to an electric turbo? also, wouldn't an electric turbo be called an electric supercharger since it's just a compressor without an exhaust turbine? the whole point of the turbo is to pump air using waste exhaust heat, rather than tapping engine power the way that you would

@SuperCharger.Heaven: nah, just don't really keep up with the k-car scene since i can't buy any of 'em over here. that looks pretty sweet, though!

That sounds about right. Mine is overall pretty good, but brakes too late, likes the stereo too much and just isn't nearly as smooth as I am. What REALLY terrifies me though is when I'm sitting at a stop light and check the rear view mirror to see a woman in a giant SUV holding a cell phone to her ear (or even worse,

@CRXPilot; In fast, out backwards: psssshh, solid rockets are a thing of the past. you could probably actually survive if you used throttleable liquid fuel motors with gimbled nozzles and a good high rate controller to keep everything pointed where you want it to go.

or a nice Berkeley SA322

hrmm, may as well throw in a few more answers: Honda S600

I've never driven one, but I'm still going to go with Suzuki Cappuccino

@Beldrueger: I don't think any brand is as bad as Mercedes... We had my Dad's 380sl break down when we were several hundred miles from home. The local dealer (in NJ) refused to even look at the car since we hadn't purchased it there. Besides that, there have been several other incidents that have led me to believe

The 1955 300slr at Lemans that killed 82 spectators.

I think it's pretty obvious that, not only would you have to be on the CP to buy it, but the owner was probably on the CP when he made it. Yikes!

"After all, who'd know but you and the cops that pull you over?"

guess i need to buy a classic!

I'm not a fan of the way it looks, but I dislike the Enzo even more... F40 just looks right.

hrmm, no wax + southern sun? Seems like a bucket full of win to me!

I dunno, it may be worth it, but there are a LOT of cars in that price range I'd rather have.

Um, I recall that this didn't end well - there was some angsty teen rock involved, and some people got nuked and some hearts were broken, but in the end everyone learned a valuable lesson.

@pbrtim: 94-'05s were all 1.8s
