@vicariousrider: i think they wanted the bike in the promo to look like the bike in the movie, which it sounds like cruise never did any stunts on.

any 80s diesel

@CID_Vicious: that's what i was hoping the hhr ss was... but it wasn't. it's difficult to even find one with a manual...

@FTGDWolverineEdition: I see one out in the wild every few weeks, it seems. Not always the face lifted ones, but an Lwagon none the less. Probably makes more sense up there since they're more resistant to body rust.

@Jeb_Hoge: I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you. As pedantic as it sounds, the seating arrangements on those vehicles forces them into crossover territory. A wagon should have a 2nd row seat that folds down to become part of the rear load floor. It may or may not have a 3rd row seat, but if it does - it should fold

this reminds me of a really lousy and expensive running shoe.

@JDUB: yes. yes they are. it's a 2 door, but i just can't call it a shooting brake. 2 door wagon i guess. so awesome. Especially with a fuel injected 283.

@JDUB: those things are just soooooo expensive these days.

@LS1RX7owen: even the suspension on those cars is scary! I think the E39 is probably the last BMW where the electronic controls weren't so total that you could actually modify the drivetrain (I've at least heard of manual swaps). I'm also not a big fan of BMW's long insistence on recirculating ball steering boxes on

@nataku8_e30: While I love the Saturn, I can't help but yearn for something with a little more bite. The LT1 Roadmasters still have the size issues that make them unmanageable, but I've seen a few cheap Magnum SRT8s on CL. Maybe when the g/f's commute gets shorter, it'll be time to make that switch. E39 540i wagons

@nataku8_e30: sadly, the Roadmaster was falling apart from rust, got lousy mileage, wouldn't fit in the garage, scraped the road with the trailer hitch every time i pulled into my steep driveway and didn't really seem like a suitable car to let my g/f use for her commute, so when I moved into my house I decided to

love wagons. grew up with 'em (somehow we managed to get by without an suv or minivan, huh), and have had a wagon since i graduated college. Here's a pic of my woody Roadmaster ('92, pre-LT1 :() towing my Miata on my 1600 mile move right after school. That thing had a greater tow capacity than any of today's

@bemis: the damn plastic on either side of the rear bay takes up a LOT of that width. I had one, and while I could fit 4x8 plywood in the back (if i scootched up the front seat, I could close the gate with the plywood in it) it wasn't quite wide enough to lay a queen sized box spring flat in the back. One of the

can't wait to see the first one of these murdered out with a matte black paint job, chrome rims, tinted cockpit and a suspension drop. maybe they could even put leds on the prop?

i'll bet dot approval ends up being even harder than faa approval was. pedestrian crash standards anyone?

@OOglebooze: Is the engine even in the car's body on that? It looks like the engine bay probably has just enough room to fit the valve covers!

Hrmm, I'm a SERIOUS cheapskate, and I own both a Miata and an E30... Those are my fun cars (as well as an E24 and a couple of bikes). When I REALLY wanted to be cheap and buy a reliable, economical daily driver with a side helping of utility, I went for a Saturn LW200 wagon. Real cheapskates don't think about how fun

It's only masculine if the engine is located between the front seats. Seriously, though - I hate this bullshit masculine marketing and the guys who are insecure enough to feel the need to drive something because it's masculine. I like muscle cars and a lot of vintage pickups, but not because I feel like those are the

@Ash78: Even if it does drive them away, they won't get far!

Good, maybe now Musk can focus a bit more on his business that actually has a future.
