The researcher’s name is Shi.  Seriously.

Nope. Reading the article would have told you that’s not the case, but here’s another well-researched article that echoes that it’s not just the calories and fat, but an extensive study of how flavors are perceived by humans, that drives Doritos addictiveness.

I agree with this conclusion but don’t quite co-sign the ‘just’ descriptor at the end - to me, the idea that these foods are chemically engineered to maximize their addictive qualities is exactly the issue, and this study is an important step toward widespread recognition of that fact.

If I order my fucking lube and gummy bears, I need them delivered over. fucking. night. I don’t care how many people-who-are-not-me have to suffer immeasurably in order to make it happen. But it must happen.

Those procedures are very invasive, expensive, and can come with serious complications and lifelong changes. But leaving that aside, I wouldn’t equate lap bands to gastric bypasses. Lap bands have fallen out of favor because they often fail/fall off, while bypasses permanently alter the digestive system.

It’s not that simple. In obese people they have decreased sensitivity to leptin, so they don’t feel full like a person of a healthy weight. Obese also have higher levels of insulin which make you eat more.

As a friend of someone who dealt with this, it’s truly an addiction. They got through it, but it took help. Maybe you could not knock on people who are embracing a tool to help them reach a solution. Yeah, some people will go to this as an “easy fix”, but pairing this with increased exercise and working on a better

So will we get another near tearful presser about this from the Mayor and company?

If only the superintendent of police showed even an ounce of the vitriol, disdain, and outrage over this as he showed when the da decided not to charge someone.

But..but...Jussie.

I’m sure Rahm’s putting together another presser so he can hold back some fake tears and rant about how this makes a mockery of the justice system and is embarrassing for the city of Chicago.

He doesn’t hate white people, he will side eye them and tell them whats up.

That's the joke, son; ya missed it! Went right past ya!

Tell that to all the white people who claim they’re not racist because they have a black friend.

Literally Thousands of Years of Human History: “Let’s give white men everything and make their lives easier than anyone else!”

“Slender Man, Pennywise, The Alien, Reverse Racism.”

Speaking as a white guy: Fuckin’ A, Mr. Peele. White guy stories have been told, they are mostly boring now, and the perspective and nuance that minority and female filmmakers are bringing to the screen is welcome and long, long overdue.

I know my story. Why do we watch movies if not to learn about somebody else’s?

Question (raises hand). The police could arrest you under a misdemeanor charge but that would still have to go through the court system, right? Like they couldn’t arrest / detain you on the spot. Someone from the court would have to tell the cop to arrest you. Then they can can execute the order. This cop just came in

I’m not a courtroom lawyer but I’m 99% sure cops don’t have the jurisdiction to make sure someone is a really a lawyer in court. That’s the court’s job and only the court’s job. The cop is there for security and to bring criminal defendants in and out of custody. This cop should 100% be fired but I’m sure he won’t be.
