Indeed the openess of the game does hold that off, in contrast to the original where you couldn’t advance without progressing through story missions. As-is GW2 requires a regular wiki/Dulfy inquiry to keep up on things, of which helps enhance gameplay experience but not much with the story.
It is a very good point that the original GWs had a nice, solid story. GW2 has a lot of awesome potential but feels... off. It’s hard to describe. I find myself skipping most cutscenes even if they’re new, and I’ve only completed the base story with one character.
