Right - and that’s a fair point. But the headlines I see are more like “Rowling accused of anti-Semitism”, not “Are goblins problematic”. That’s my point.

Stewart made it clear in a follow up clip, posted elsewhere in these comments, that he was joking and doesn’t think Rowling is antisemitic. Those quotes were taken out of context by Newsweek and repeated here bythe AV club uncritically.

I don’t recall where they were said to be inferior. Also, “the bankers are greedy and untrustworthy” is, like, a huge part of left wing messaging.

It was one of those things where I saw it on the screen and I was expecting the crowd to be like, ‘Holy shit, she did not, in a wizarding world, just throw Jews in there to run the fucking underground bank.’ And everybody was just like, ‘Wizards.’
