It’s not moronic for the loan provider. If the loan is approved, regardless of the circumstance the provider gets his/her commission, and the company providing the loan gets the interest (when they initially sell the loan). It may be moronic for the company which approved the loan and now must carry it.

Any used car with a turbo. I wonder how many owners kept up with the more-frequent oil changes. Unfortunately, finding one will be a lot more difficult.

Last-gen Ford Focus or Fiesta with the automatic. Not everyone is aware of the transaxle problems, and most of the last years produced (which haven’t already been junked) are at about the age and/or mileage where they probably will start having problems. Unfortunately, two friends bought these cars before the issues…
For credit where credit is due, I borrowed the delicatessen line from Patrick Bedard in Car and Driver from a review he did of the Hyundai Excel. I hope nobody there minds. Or notices.

1989-95 Dodge Spirit/Plymouth Acclaim (excluding the Spirit R/T). The car looks like it was designed by an accountant (and I am an accountant). The Acura Integra. The Mitsubishi Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser. The Honda Prelude. The Ford Probe. The Mazda MX-3 and MX-6. The Nissan 240SX. The Toyota Celica. The Volkswagen Corrado. Hell, even the Dodge Daytona, last-gen Mercury Cougar and Chevrolet Beretta (okay, that last one is stretching it a bit).…

I would go with every Mazda sedan. (Or coupe or convertible or station wagon.) I was bitterly disappointed when Mazda chickened out on producing the rwd midsized sedan it was designing around its inline-6 and instead decided to go with the CX-90--which, to me, is just another SUV. Like we don’t have enough of those.

The best aspect of this story—the only good aspect--is that nobody else got caught in this accident. It could have been much worse.
Oops, someone (one of eight) just voted Nice Price. Sorry.
