As a software developer since the age of 12 (as a hobby first, not child labour) I've always loved innovative games for the mechanics "behind the curtain." I think this makes me tend to favour games a lot of people don't, or dislike games that are mostly visual fluff behind a basic set of recycled game mechanics.
I want to read a story about a guy who traces someone's IP and sends them a pizza for being so helpful online. Now that would be awesome.
Awesome job perpetuating the "us versus them" bullshit. Those people that would love a safe space are not some "Other" that is going to take away your precious toys. We're gamers just like you. We just want a space where we don't have to hear bullshit like this.
All of the comments below this article are fucking despicable and highlight the very need for a safe space. I fucking hate gamer culture if these comments represent it in any capacity.
Except Carmack never needed to work for Oculus. He could've left the minute this was announced if he didn't like it - not only is Carmack well set financially, he could work ANYWHERE he wants in the gaming/tech sector these days.
I'm with you on this one, but don't tell anyone, they might hit me.
Carmack is independently wealthy and is only with Oculus because it's a project that has captured his interest. Suggesting that Facebook owns him is laughable. I have concerns about this acquisition, but let's not be completely blind to reality. Carmack, of all people, says what he thinks. He always has.
Carmack can easily leave and go just about anywhere he damn well pleases. He is an unrivaled wizard in the world of gaming. He wouldn't still be there if he didn't think it was a good idea.
Please stop. More funding and support is an incredible thing to happen to a company like this. They now have the power to make VR truly take off. A better product at a mostly likely cheaper price point sounds fantastic to me.
Oh Yee of little integrity.
People paid for a dev kit. They got a dev kit.
You're right. The main reason console gamers don't consider PC gaming is UTTER IGNORANCE about PC gaming.
I called this reckless. Purchasing Pixar or LucasFilm is not a reckless maneuver as you are buying a brand, not a performance.
There are reasonable arguments to be made on both sides of this conversation.
the Dualshock controllers disagree with you.
Wasn't there a cardboard longbox, too?
What, are you mad that your brand-new $500 purchase can't render a game better than my 4 year old PC? Hell, I could upgrade right now for $300-400 and lob a new graphics card in there, and I'll be right up there at ultra for another long, long time.
1500 dollars? Hm, I dunno man, I know people who built PCs two years ago for 800 bucks tha are better than today's consoles, I bet if you built those computers now it'll come out to something around the same price as these new consoles.
Less powerful than $500 PCs too.
