I feel like at this point we’re just defining ‘emotionally independent’ as a thing everyone is, just like we like to describe everyone as smart. Because, no, I don’t think emotionally independent people are in situations that don’t benefit them.

I wonder if part of this is that funny people tell jokes/are funny because they want approval from others. If we can encourage women to not need approval from others, will they be less likely to stay with abusive partners?

I have all the sympathy in the world for women who find themselves in this situation. But no, I don’t buy that it can happen to anyone. My mom drilled it into my head that I had to be financially and emotionally independent and there’s a lot of pride that comes in having accomplished that and knowing I won’t ever find…

On Are You The One (another MTV show) they let this girl hit a guy and try to force him out of bed for what seemed like hours. Finally, he threw her down by her neck.
