Dude, they are public goods. I paid over $100,000 in taxes last year, an appalling amount of which went to the frickin’ war. If we want to avoid the tragedy of the commons, we all have to shell to for stuff that doesn’t benefit us personally, or to which we object. That’s just how stuff works. I mean, duh.

That’s what Peter Thiel wants. He wants us to go back to the times of the highwaymen, where everybody had to pay a random amount to use the roads.

See also Education.

By Tullock’s reasoning, motorcyclists should be the safest drivers in the world.

Because you can steal it from maintenance and replacement. Just defer repairs a little longer. Don’t worry, when that bridge collapses, it’ll get replaced somehow. Push off the things that are supposed to be paid for, and when they get bad enough, the citizens will approve bond measures paid with property tax hikes

yeah- sell em to private companies that wont maintain them at all, and will sue states that try to maintain or expand roads near the toll roads. because that might be competition.

Not a new car. Bubble kept “collector” cars aren’t new.

I think the author meant actual age of a single new VIN for sale, not age of a design...

Consider too the carbon footprint of rail versus cars or commercial aircraft. This justifies not only commuter rail but long-distance rail.

And those federal taxes don’t even track inflation — 18.4 cents/gallon since 1993. (Inflation from 1993 to 2015 was 64.6 percent.)

Dreadful. But then, can you imagine how much the roads lose? Huge and ongoing investment and in the vast majority of cases no income whatsoever (unless you count speeding fines).

Fun fact, that’s what Mexico does. There are tons of conservatives that want low taxes in Mexico. They don’t tax, the rich are the only ones that get to go to college and there are free and toll roads.

Here’s the issue with Amtrak - it’s not reliable. The freight railroads to whom it’s beholden (outside of DC-NY-Boston corridor) don’t give a shit about a passenger train. Delays are constant and endemic. We’re going to spend more protecting Trump’s orange ass in a year than we’ll spend on Amtrak.

This is yet another example of how Trump and his cronies like to talk big about “building up infrastructure” but won’t do jack about it unless they personally profit.

“when I see Aston Martins logo, I imagine how much better it would be if it were made to look more like Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes, and VWs logo”

Why would anyone want to change this?

Q45 was based on the President/Cima. This was based on the Sunny/Sentra.

That truck design actually looks awesome. I think the door trim could work, but only if they continue it along the entire length of the body and don’t just cut it off at the door.

Am I the only one who thinks their cars haven’t looked that great in the last few years or so? Or maybe I’m just stuck in the 1990s.

Man, VW greenlights the new microbus and Torch isn’t the first to report it? He must be slipping.
