Wimpy engine? The Outback, its chief rival comes with 175hp standard.

Yup. People already have complained. Also, the tiny plastic tabs over the wheelarches are apparently a dealbreaker for this car, but not the $50k Range Rover Evoque. I called someone out on this earlier and they said “Well, it’s a Range Rover. It doesn’t have to be perfect.”

Buick had that cue first.

Today’s Buicks all have good fit and finish and acclaimed infotainment systems. Also, why would this not drive like a Buick? The Encore, Envision, and Enclave all do.

If the rumors are true, there will be a V6 eventually.

Well hello there! Welcome to 2017 where GM makes some of the best interiors available. You must have come an awful long way in your time travels from 2002!

Which is a size class smaller than the Regal.

The Alltrak is also a size class smaller than the Regal.

There really don’t need to be rebates for the two to compete. The Buick starts at a $4k higher base price, but also has 40% more power as standard, and more standard features.

Well, feel free to go out and buy any number of the other 0 wagons available in this size class without AWD, then.

Right. Compact, expensive $50k CUVs don’t need to be perfect, mass-market cars do! Give me a break.

Buick relaunched manual transmissions in their cars in 2011 after a 22-year absence. They offered them with the turbo engine in the Regal and the GS. They offered a manual in the Verano turbo as well.

Seriously? No one cares when Land Rover does it. When Buick does it, it’s a dealbreaker. Brilliant.

The same idiot who put them on the Range Rover Evoque and got zero complaints, maybe?

Yeah, and the H6 has basically the same power as the Regal 2.0T. But poorer fuel economy.

When Range Rover uses black plastic cladding, Jalops say “beautiful!” When Range Rover leaves those black plastic tabs on their wheelarches, Jalops don’t care or notice.

Why complain about it when Buick does it, but not when literally every other automaker does?

Don’t look now, but the Subaru Outback tells the same story. The only way to get one under $30k is with 175hp and a CVT.

If it is, that Outback surely comes with a wheezy 2.5L 175hp four and a CVT. Still worth it?

Tell it to Land Rover and Audi, too.
