Based on Netflix’s track record recently, they haven’t earned the benefit of the doubt from me just yet. However, first impressions are strong. I’m really mixed on this, and really nervous. I want to be optimistic, but Bryan and Mike’s departure is not nothing.

Yeah I knew that once Guillermo finally did/didn’t become a vampire that it’d be ending because that’s the end of the best concept holding the show together. I was kind of hoping for a whole season of baby vampire Guillermo learning all the little bits about vampirism he never saw, but honestly I think the way they

That’s very much a “them” problem. If you stop catering to that crowd over damn near everything, many of these so called problems wouldn’t exist. It’s a movie, not your entire life. Recast and let the complainers shout into the void.

Best approach: Recast Kang, and simply don’t comment on the fact that he looks different. The characters don’t need to acknowledge it. It’s the same character played by a different actor, it’s happened before, it doesn’t need in-world explanations.

Those directors need to sit down and take a long drink of “Get the fuck over yourself”. I am so sick of the current trend for primadonna directors who get all arty about their supposed vision. They ain’t that deep, bro.

To this day that’s the first thing I think of when I see TGI’s come up.

I don’t have an issue with a full meal at all as long as they provide the table and setup at your seat to facilitate it. Nothing sucks more than having to hold a tray of food on your lap in the dark that makes no sense.

I think you mean private equity fund managers.

Isn’t this like, textbook emotional abuse? The instant your partner seems to have a credible complaint about your behavior that someone might sympathise with, pivot immediately to suddenly crashing self-esteem and threats to kill yourself?

Yeah if there was a crowd that didn’t want Doctor Who to be so “woke”, I got bad news for them, RTD ain’t about that.

The return of RTD has resulted in a greatest hits of representation that is going to blow the minds of the right wing commentariat.

Hooo is this one going to piss off all the (Far) right people.

Overall a fun episode. A little twee, sure, but aren’t they always?

Everything seems political nowadays” - I thought this was only uttered by right-wingers afraid of diversity, so sad to see it in this review.

I have liked some of Brit Marling’s indie sci-fi movies quite a  bit.  But the bigger budget and more expansive run time of The OA seemed to me to feed into her worst tendencies

Let’s be honest, a lot of things about Capaldi in that special are an all-timer!

the scene where Capaldi gets to pretend to see the inside of the TARDIS for the first time is an all-timer

My gut says there were elements of Christmas Carol that I didn’t love (true of many episodes of the Matt Smith era) but the clearest memory I have of that episode is of the very, very good twist on The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, so it’s worth it for that.

Do the kids that run the AVClub these days not know the greatness that is the Venture Bros Christmas episode “A Very Venture Christmas”?

“A Christmas Carol” is imho the best Doctor Who Christmas special.   We watch it as a family every year
