@laughingacademy: Are souls and consciousness the same thing? If not, then are there two versions of Sam - one that's dead inside and watches his brother get vampified, and one still stuck in the cage/Hell? (Option 1)

@Annalee Newitz: I still remember when ol' Gramps was possessed by Yellow-Eyes when Dean travelled back in time, and I still don't like him. First impressions, and all - I wouldn't rule out any demonic trickery, either.

To me, the theocratic dystopia and the forced-to-live-in-a-fictional-1950s-ideal are really closely related, and the scariest of all of these dystopic futures. Corporate greed - I despise, but I understand. Military state - terrible and oppressing, but I understand. Religious/Idealist Fanatacism - horrifying, and

Perhaps Sam got out of Hell by selling his soul? Or whoever raised him forgot to check and make sure his soul was still attached before sending him topside.

I am fortunate enough to live in an area where I'm just an hour away from a night-time view of the sky mostly unencumbered by light pollution. It's actually really neat to see the opposing point of view.

This is why I'm planning to be cremated. I'll definitely be dead after being burned to ashes.

@Gouda: Agreed. Scariest movie I've ever seen.

So is Peter Jackson saying that John Rhys-Davies is NOT sexy?

I was glad to see "Slaughterhouse 5" on the list - I love that book. It's so amazing on so many different levels, and so difficult to explain to anyone who hasn't read Vonnegut. My favorite line was left out of the entry, though, and that's the epitaph carved into the tombstone: "Everything was beautiful, and

@Dunny0: That was my first thought as well. To me, it seems that these bears are so hungry that they're ignoring the probable chemical smell and digging in anyway.

@jay13x: Actually, when they meet up with Ash in Heaven during that episode, he says something like "You two die more often than anyone I've ever met." They pop in an out of the afterlives all the time. Remember the episode in season three when the Trickster kills Dean about a bajillioin times?

@Brian Hogg: So now that Balthazar's going into business for himself, rather than staying with Angels & Co., the question is: what is Balthazar planning to do with the human souls he's collecting? And for that matter, what do demons actually do with the souls they collect?

@Hypnosifl: More's the pity. We could all do with some electrolocation. ;)

Next week, on Extreme Mountain Goating...

@Hypnosifl: Ah. That makes sense. I can imagine that their bills would impede a more traditionally mammalian type of nursing.

If the platypus produces milk but does not have nipples, then how do its young, well, nurse after they've hatched?

Glad to see Mary Shelley's "The Last Man" on the list. I had to seek out some of her other work because I enjoyed "Frankenstein" so much. She's given us such a common frame of reference for so many science fiction/literary themes, as well as her other less well-known work.
