No need to look to heavyweights like Q-Bert, I managed to crush all my DJ friends' hopes with this here: http://www.youtube.com/watc…
Roujin Z (written, but not directed by Otomo) is amazing and whoever says anything to the contrary is either crazy or just hasn't seen it yet. Apparently it was a Siskel/Ebert pick of the week, if that helps.
Never really thought about it, but I understand what you mean and it makes sense. What always takes me out of movies is when actors morph into CGI versions of themselves and suddenly get all springy (in that weirdly smooth fashion). Some sort of middle ground between the two would indeed be nice.
I'm not the biggest wire fu fan myself, but what's so inherently ridiculous about it? Don't you like the specific effect (i.e. it would look better if it was done in CGI or something) or just the fantastical element in an otherwise kinda sorta realistic movie?
Should have been so much better
I was super-hyped for this. The trailer looked great, and come on, it's Yuen Woo-ping's return to directing. But it suffers from the desaturated colors that are apparently required by law in Chinese action movies nowadays, truly horrible CGI in the "God of Wu Shu" scenes and an…
Perfect timing
Seriously, thanks. I had just dug up Ray Ray's old records again and listened to them from start to finish this week, and now I come here and see he has a new one. Bought it immediately.
True, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they decided not to give Faye Wong a second listen after Eyes On Me. There's worse, though, namely the Eyes On Me remix on the Japanese version of Fable.
Great year for me
Soul/R&B:
Amp Fiddler, Anthony Hamilton, Floetry, a lesser Erykah Badu offering that nonetheless featured Back in the Day, Kelis, at least one nice Alicia Keys single, and flex life's Kuroi Himitsu*.
Same here. It helps that 2003 was an insane year for the clubs. 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Andre 3000, Sean Paul, Nappy Roots' Round The Globe, David Banner's Like a Pimp. Lots of mindless fun.
Oh, I don't even know about time wasting. You can look something up on Youtube, last.fm or Grooveshark so quickly, it's ridiculous. Sometimes you don't even have to read up on things — aforementioned Malaysian Psychedelic band was handed to me on a platter by YouTube because of their cover of "Do What You Gotta Do". la…
It has made me less of a completist, too, simply because it allowed me to expand my spectrum more, and I find listening to five albums from five different artists more rewarding than listening to five albums by the same artist. Out of the last 10 albums I bought, only two were by artists I had already bought music…
Australia never had those "No. 1 in the US" stickers? How did you know which CDs were good?
Good review
Full of well-earned praise, but devoid of the mindless worship that's taken over much of the rest of the critical community. Eurogamer pretty much calls this "better than perfect", for Christ's sake. That's just asking for backlash, and the game doesn't deserve that.

Yeti, I think your comparison is off because lo-fi sound is not a musical style, it's a matter of production. Sloppily developing film on purpose to achieve a certain effect is a closer analogy, I'd say.
Ahem! The PC version of The Last Remnant was actually really good once it got going (which admittedly took way too long). Fresh game system, very good soundtrack, decent charcters and story, and Daisuke Ono.
Well, Capcom's been determined to match Square Enix on its race to the bottom for a while now, so that's kind of fitting.
