Exactly! I honestly can't figure it out. Then I gotta hear people complain about how their "vote doesn't count" or how "nothing is ever gonna change" and it's like yea not with that attitude it won't. SMH

is the problem that it's not easy enough to vote, though? Because I keep hearing this common thread of 'millennials are disillusioned' if that's really the problem, is making it easier to vote really going to fix anything? Because they don't seem to have a problem getting out to vote in Presidential years, is it…
Which makes zero sense to me. If I were in my twenties right now and racking up a ton of student loan debt, I'd be very interested to make sure I wasn't about to enter into a workplace and an economy that are as un-fucked as possible by a bunch of hedge fund managers who want us all chained to our desks for less than…
good point, that. We have a situation right now where one party is very clearly benefitting from a lot of people not voting. Why would they want that to change? But yeah, it can also be a pain to get out to vote on a work day. Sunday, anyone?
I'm 24 and I agree and disagree with everything you'd said. It pisses me off how young people seem to have this "we can't do anything wah wah what's the point" thing going on. And they are partially right, yea the government sucks and the candidates probably suck but you know what's really gonna fucking suck?…
Don't do that. You might break a tooth.
i have a different opinion from the pack? get accused of being a misogynist. feminism is really inclusive!
You might not know this, but in Australia, we generally don't pay for our degrees upfront. The repayments come out of our salary when we reach a certain threshold of earning (I think around $55k at the moment). If you don't make that much, you don't pay it back.
Why did she send the school the picture, anyway, if not to make a statement?
Look at me everybody, I'm breastfeeding! I'm special!
I'm sorry but I DO NOT want to see this at my graduation. My husband, family, and academic advisor will be sitting in the audience, and me on the dais; this is a time-honoured academic tradition. It's meant to acknowledge the camaraderie and achievement of the people graduating. I get that this is perfectly legal, the…
Their generation motto: "I don't get all worked up about that."
I don't have kids yet. But I have my own student debt and a kid sister. When I moved to this city, where space is at a huge premium, I had to start selling things to make my life fit here. I realized: all those Christmas and birthday gifts I received when I was a kid were total crap. Silly collectible dolls and…
ballots not bullets!
Maryland had a 30% turnout. You are registered when you get your drivers license and they send almost monthly reminders of your polling place. And only 30% of the registered voters made it in.
Yes, thank you. That apathy paired with slacktivism is a lethal combination.
Fairly certain making that a holiday will lead to drunkenness and general fucking-around-who-cares than ballot casting. I know because our elections are always held on sunday and it doesn't change a damned thing.
I teach two university courses in marketing. Between them, there is only one regular newspaper reader, and he writes for the paper. Students —who are there to learn how to get people to buy their products and events — have no real idea where they themselves get information. Not surprisingly, they don't vote. It's…
Dear Brides: I hate weddings. Truly, I do. Showers too. When you're looking to trim the invitation list, please scratch my name off first. I'm sure you'll be as relieved as I'll be. You don't want me showing up, getting too drunk too early, and hitting on all the men, even your weird Uncle Charlie, and all the married…
I'm 40. How the fuck is it so hard for 18-30 year olds to get to the polls? I've voted in every state, federal and municipal election since 1992. It is truly not that difficult. What it requires is an iota of common sense and planning. Did you just move? Figure out where your fucking polling place is? Request a…
