Maybe the part of it that gets me the most is that grudging “supposed to,” followed up by “what we’re taught,” the combo of which has about as much understanding and compassion in it as “We’re not supposed to say the n-word” usually does.

Great piece, but the title is misleading. I was hoping to read about female/nonbinary writers who might be successful celebrities—I think Roxane Gay, Lindy West, and Sharon Olds are pretty entertaining.
I couldn’t read about him opening up the flower of life by recollecting that he’s one of those guys who won’t do cunnilingus. I can’t find verification for that, though, and I recommend against Googling “Terrence Howard cunnilingus.”
There’s one episode where Benson gets her comeuppance when a guy she’s helped convict who then got raped in prison comes after her for having implicitly joked that it would happen to him. (Or something like that.)
He was awesome.
Protecting sexual predators is only a small, nasty part of their overarching mission.
Been there, done that, too cheap to buy the T-shirt.
Just keep reminding yourself how temporary this all is.
Solidarity, sister. (I’ve had shingles for weeks and have managed to get a bra on only twice, and it’s not a mode that works for me.)
They could head toward that dark introspection in the first half hour and then have him bitten by a radioactive toilet crocodile and become some kind of immortal in spandex. $$$$$
Jonathan Coulton’s a genius.
I went on a Louisiana tour once where we were led through the bayou sans flashlights. It was an extraordinary experience. Trusting that you’ll learn to see in the dark is probably a metaphor for something.
Same. I appreciate some of her general spiritual attitudes. (Not the ones on mental health or vaccines or manifestation-type philosophies.) I don’t want a leader who’s woo-woo forward, but I’d like to have a leader who genuinely cares about love and peace and unity and fairness. It’s daring that she’s putting all that…
Can you shave their ass hair?
Don’t go bringing Bowie into this. I can’t afford to live in Takoma Park again.
I’m sure I’m old for this site—younger than John-John but alive when his dad died. My dad died the same weekend the plane crashed. What I remember, besides my grief over my father and my sorrow that I couldn’t ask him to tell his one mysterious JFK story (there was supposedly a story there), was how long the TV…
We had him across the river in MD, too. (You had the real one, though.)
I agree with every single thing Marianne Williamson has said, and I still wouldn’t vote for her.
The orange ribbon is in honor of Jaime Guttenberg, who was killed in the Parkland shooting.
I could listen to smooth Pete all night. Beyond his composure, I loved his callout, as a Christian, of the “Christian” values of the right.
