I mean really, what are they going to say?
I mean really, what are they going to say?
It’s the same as telling Japanese that putting your elbows on the table during dinner will offend Americans. The majority of Americans won’t give a care.
And if a restaurant gives me chopsticks which are joined more than 1/3 of the way down (super cheap crappy ones) I will rub them. Don’t want me to rub? Spring for quality chopsticks
don’t get funny looks, and nobody has ever asked me about it.
Fun Fact- in Japan, it’s considered rude to pour your own drink. It’s also rude to let the other person sit with an empty glass. It’s also rude to NOT drink what was poured for you.
This isn’t proper cause the very limited amount of interaction I’ve had with Japanese people
Its not rude to rub chopsticks. Its actually quite Japanese to do
Considering I have seen Japanese people rub chop sticks while eating at restaurants in Japan I am really lost as to what this author is saying.
I kind of hate all of those symbolical ways to do things...if it’s delicious, I’ll say it’s delicious. Every little thing I do doesn’t have to be a ritual.
Yeah, if that’s any representation of normal table manners in China, I would just say fuck off. I’ll eat how I want.
Never got the etiquette for those large roll ups. Anyone give me a hand on that one?
We certainly don’t mean any disrespect, but I don’t want to eat splinters.
Oh for Pete’s sake. We do it because it needs to be done, and not otherwise.
I can’t use chopsticks and never will
In Japan, they won’t really look down on you as a Foreigner for having bad manners... you’re already assumed to be an uncultured, crass piece of crap. So they can’t really ‘look down’ on you any more than they already do.
And I’ve seen Koreans doing this with the chopsticks at convenience stores when they buy instant ramen.
your disposable chopsticks would be so crude that there would be big, visible splinters
unless you’re in a Japanese family owned sushi
Also don’t add the damn wasabi to the soi sauce.Highly offensive in high end places.....
I don’t rub my chopsticks together but why would anybody cared if i ever did?
