Granted I also suggested the Trooper and its Acura twin the SLX, but I get where you’re coming from. In that same sense the vehicross isn’t underrated either.
Looks great, just should have been a column or floor shifter. Knob gear selectors are a bad answer for a problem that never existed.

I’ll put my bias on my sleeve and say that I am VERY interested in getting a Rivian once my A4 lease is up, but it’s not really a huge surprise that a company whose income comes from selling vehicles, is losing money when they’re not selling vehicles.
What you have to understand about Conservatism is at its core, it is about preserving an in-group protected by the law but not bound by it, and an out-group bound by the law but not protected by it.
The “Dart” was hot garbage from the git-go. The transmission was glitchy and fragile, the build quality was non-existent and the dealers couldn’t wait to ignore your problems. This was never a good car.
Unless this guy is going to altitude and/or actual 4x4 trails the correct and obvious answer is: Outback.

What’s not to love? For anyone that’s ever been in this generation Escort...well...EVERYTHING. These were miserable to drive, uncomfortable, constantly smelled of cheap plastic, and the crumple zone was your legs and FACE.
