When taken in context of the greater economy, it’s a steeper drop than you might think. Inflation has practically doubled in that time, and also new car prices have continued to go up along with it. So even if retail prices have only dropped 11/2% this year, it's pretty big compared to everything else going up..

$1000 more represents a <2.5% price increase. Considering all the inflationary pressures around the world, how is this at all surprising?

Assuming this is a class action (is it? unsure) the typical cut the attorneys take is 33-40%. For settlements this size it’s usually closer to the smaller percentage. So, the clients will likely do even a bit better, which is good!
