I always though the most refined version of this type of game was World Karate Championship, on C64. Very fun, intuitive controls for a single joystick/button, and the sequel i believe could use 3 players all at once.

I fall more into the casual player category. On a good day I’ll put in 3-4 rounds. Admittedly, while I haven’t taken the time to figure it out, the entire progression system to me is incomprehensible. I just want to fire up the game and shoot.
