Oh yikes, they have timing chain issues too?

Yeah I had that one in the back of my mind when I replied. I drove a 2001 QX4 for a few years.

Yeah a number of cars have trouble with the tensioners and guides, a few have trouble with the chains actually stretching. Timing chains aren’t a scheduled wear item though. Except maybe on VAG/BMW cars.

True. Ditto.

Aww the transmission was one of the enjoyable parts of that car! I wouldn’t call it excellent but it was far better than most econo-cars I’ve driven that were built in the past 20 years. I could totally see a manual being a blast too.

Audi makes an exception of a lot of rules

Fair point! Nothing wrong with extra insurance.

Ah I’m picking up what you’re putting down!

The aftermath of the engine orgy looks pretty similar to what I’d expect the aftermath of an actual orgy is though.

Also, unless everyone with the same car as you is telling you OEM is garbage, stick with OEM parts. There’s plenty of places on your car that you could use an aftermarket alternative, but timing belts aren’t the place to skimp.

Depending on the cost of labor to pull the head, machine it straight, install new valves and button everything back up again, sometimes swapping in a used engine is a much better bet. There’s also the possibility that the pistons will be too damaged and will have to replaced as well.

Some cars have known issues with timing chains and should be addressed accordingly. By and large, though, timing chains shouldn’t ever need to be touched.

You do you, my friend! I’m no stranger to lusting after unpopular cars.

But that’s exactly my point: the guy isn’t even attempting to stop. It’s not a matter of the driver not being able to stop in time, he’s intentionally ramming other drivers. In fact it looks like he’s stepping on the gas to do so.

No kidding. I spend almost as much time looking for tires as I do shopping for the car. Needless to say I start shopping way before new tires are needed.

Aw man, the windshield? That’s some suck right there. I think I heard of someone breaking the sunroof doing the same thing.

I think the size really helped. It had a fun amount of get up and go, the transmission was enjoyable overall, and it was very tossable.

lol Just noticed how relevant your handle is right now.

The first time I replaced my brake pads I put the anti-squeal grease on the pads...on the pads. It made perfect sense at the time: you put the grease where the components will be contacting and rubbing, right?

But did it work?
