It is generally not taxed in the US until the benefit exceeds a certain amount - so called “Cadillac Healthcare Plans”. My own employer provided coverage only just misses that level due to them keeping my portion of the premium just high enough.

I hope they strike. With the current new vehicle shortages, they may never have more leverage.

That’s for those working in professional, salaried type jobs. Manufacturing wages are lower:

$3/hr for a 40hr work week is under $6.5k/yr. I don’t care how low the cost of living is, you’re not buying a $150k house on that kind of salary.

Around here, they can’t seem to afford anything newer than 15+ year old Dodge Rams.

I live near and work in a GM town. They recently fired the plant back up after being shuttered for 5 years or so.

So $3 an hour (with probably no benefits) instead of $30 for UAW (still think they have good benefits), still sells for $60k, how many vacation homes for GM executives has that situation paid for?

At least they pass the savings on to us!
