When I bought a used copy of Kick at a Hastings, it came with a copy of Listen Like Thieves in the case. And, there was no sticker or label on the cover that said I was getting 2 CDs. It was such a pleasant surprise.

Welp, no unseeing that.
One of the few bands that I can listen to every song. Just start the album and hit play. All good ones.
Hmmm. All the skate-rats I knew LOVED INXS - one of the first major acts to embrace skate culture.
1. INXS were a major BAND, and well respected, with an iconic, talented front-man.
Nah, that is actually right. As a 90's jock and 80's surfer grom it was NOT cool to name INXS even though we all listened to them and had their ( at least Kick) albums.
I really loved them up to The Swing, after that everything got too glossy and dancy for me. I got to see them at the tiny Cabaret Metro in Chicago on The Swing tour, and the moment they took the stage you knew they were going to become huge rock stars.
Love that “Full Moon Dirty Hearts” is represented - I’ve always had a soft spot for that album as they struggled against the changing tide of pop music. Although “Welcome to Wherever You Are” is the stronger album (one of the best of the 90's), this follow up disc, which came out just 12 months later, is louder,…
Never got into this band myself, but they were the first tour I remember that kids my age went to in large numbers. I think I would’ve been in grade 7 and the next day tons of kids were wearing the same tour shirt, a sight that would again come to pass a few times through junior high but never so widespread. Started…
Same here in regards to the Maroon 5 comparison, but I stopped dead in my tracks at this line:
INXS was my favorite group growing up, and they should be in the hall of fame. There are three reasons why they are underappreciated. First of course is the tragic death of Michael Hutchence. Groups that cannot tour (at least with the same members and not some Frankenstein monster of a group..see Journey) just fall…
Damn, but this is a great recap of the band - I always neglected INXS as a two hit wonder with a sex symbol vocalist and that was it... definitely prejudice on my part. But, really, there is definitely more here than that.
Fantastic band and all of these songs are great. “This Time” and “What You Need” are two of the best rock and roll songs ever. They should absolutely be in a Hall of Fame if not in Jan Wenner’s private club house.
When I received my first Discman as a high school graduation gift from my parents, they included two CDs with it: INXS’s Kick and Motley Crue’s Dr. Feelgood. The former became a favorite of mine; the latter became a substitute for a clay pigeon.
X was one of the 6 CD’s my parents kept in the car between ages 3-8 for me, and I can’t thank ‘em enough for baking that sound into my tiny brain. INXS did more to form my musical taste than any band other than the Beatles, I think...
This band ruled my world at age 13 when Kick hit. Went and bought all their other stuff shortly after. Still bummed I never saw them live.
I see what you are going for, trying to get the deep cuts, but you could make an hour of power of their hits, and it would Kick all kinds of ass. And an y dismissal could be tossed away as you say, “Damn, they had a lot of great songs didn’t they?” And really, the fact that Kick would make up most of that hour would…
Hutchence snuck “I am better than Oasis” into the backing vocals of Elegantly Wasted after Noel Gallagher infamously called him a "has-been" at an Awards ceremony.
I went to a San Diego show for their Full Moon, Dirty Hearts tour in the mid-90'sand what I remember is that the crowd kept trying to mosh pits to their songs, which wasn’t surprising because the Seattle/alternative scene was absolutely dominating the music scene then. It did create quite the confusing scene with…
I’ve just checked - What You Need peaked at 51 in the UK singles charts. IIRC the Chart Show used to do a “top tens of the year” show in December, and they included What You Need under the caption “the one that got away”.
