Yeah in 2016 I told people Trump’s interview in June or July made him look a lot like Reagan, that Hillary was a horrible candidate and that it looked to me like Trump would win but they didn’t believe me. Why didn’t they believe me?

Holy shit Jumanji 2 was 5 years ago already!

I have to assume the paycheck had something to do with it also.

Keep your day job till your night job pays if nothing else, eh?

Yep, just like the music business:  You can get a band together and play out and even if you’re the best band in the world you probably aren’t gonna hit it big unless an amazing confluence of luck and timing work out in your favor.

This right here.  It’s a fine movie until the ending makes it worthless.  My parents love it so whenever they have it on I just make sure I don’t watch it past the part where they explain the trick with the Central Park tree.

Yeah I thought I remembered it happening like that but I’m not actually in the industry and it was a while ago now so I wasn’t 100% sure.

Even back then a lot of up and comers were shooting commercials or music videos.

I basically only go to the drive in anymore, regular movie theaters have gotten too expensive and the only one within ~45 minutes of me closed last year so it’s like a 1.5 hour round trip to go to a theater whereas I have 2 drive ins that show first run movies closer than that.

Yep I’ve heard that one before but it’s been a while so thanks for reminding me :)

It sorta sounds like nostalgia for an era that wasn’t actually as good as she remembers it being. For every Tarantino there had to be a thousand indie filmmakers who didn’t make a buck back on their film. Indie filmmaking was supposed to be more about making a film for the sake of art and not making big bucks anyhow.

Plus you have streaming platforms themselves making movies.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I think we took movies like Predator more seriously back then too, while now I can see the somewhat satirical nature of it.

I’m curious as to how many indie filmmakers actually made a lot of money 30 years ago. I would assume that being a writer on a big budget movie in the ‘90s would pay more on average than writing for an arthouse flick. I mean sure you’ve got your Tarantinos but I feel like they’re the exception. Maybe it was a bit

I was finally going to see them and now this happens.  Fuck cancer, get well soon Ann!

At the time nobody was expecting something like that, everyone thought it was going to be a regular Ahnold  movie.

That actually sounds kind of cool...

It’s valued at $80 billion, it’s actually worth significantly less.

Well if nobody wants it it won’t make money and it will fail.

He may have refused the coke that time but he was on all of it for Raw and Delirious I tell you what.
