Rented a Mustang convertible at Ontario, CA airport a few years ago.  I thought it great that I scored a convertible for a business trip.  It was about 98 degrees that day.  I left the rental lot with the top down.  By the second red light the top was up.

You’re 100% right in Florida. In the day in the Summer it’s always way too hot to drive with the top down, not to mention that you get sunburned. The only time I drive with the top down in Summer is at night, and even then some days it’s a drag, not so much the heat but 99% percent humidity. November can’t come soon…

We need a word for someone who drives their convertible in 75ºF low-humidity weather with the top up. If I were king, anytime someone does this they need to surrender their convertible to someone who will use it.

Took my convertible on a 2000 mile road trip a few years ago in late May starting from Philadelphia down to Atlanta. I started off in early morning with the top down, a little chilly, and made it to about South Carlina before I had to pull over and put the top up before I suffered heat stroke.

That’s how you know who the tourists in SoCal are. They’re the ones in the rented Mustang convertible with the top down in 95 degree heat “enjoying” the sun sitting in traffic on the 405.

So much this. I had a targa Corvette, and during the spring and fall, the top would almost always be off. During the summer it would be on during the day and off at night while winter would be the reverse.

Thank you for understanding. I’ve had people give me so much shit for driving with the top up in the summer and I can just see the lack of understanding when I start to explain that sitting in stop and go traffic when its 95 and sunny is not fun with the top down.
