But the weird thing I discovered when trying to find that original leak, is that it did of course become a marketing bullet point, but later was something they claimed to have never said, presumably to fend off criticism of the game.

This is the distinction between a remaster and remake, in my book. I’d classify a lot of what get called remasters as remakes - THPS 1 + 2, for example.
