I am floored by the sheer number of people on here who think a cell phone is going to work in natural disaster or some other major emergency. 

In my 40s and when something is going on and I’m in the middle of nowhere the first place I go is AM radio. My phone seems like it gets _less_ service now than it did 10 years ago. 

I once had a Washington State Patrol officer flip down the visor and show me the speed/dine schedule. As I remember, 30 years ago 95 was $300, 100 was a free ride in a police car, directly to jail.

It’s not just that it’s more reliable in a emergency, rural areas still don’t have great cell service, like there are seriously places that have very little Internet bandwidth at best. I was in crash and had to go 5 miles down the highway to actually get service to call the highway patrol. The area I live in has
