there certainly used to be- especially about drunks. the movie ‘arthur’ comes to mind- it was a hilarious comedy about a rich guy who was just drunk all the time.

and if you watch it now, its horrifying. My uncle was an alcoholic- he ruined his life, destroyed other peoples lives, he has family all over the country

i suspect its more likely that he’s not interacted with any kids since he was one himself. kids are great in a lot of respects, but they are definitely not cool.

because those other shows aren’t defending and/or celebrating their alcoholism, drug addiction or smoking. If you saw a lighthearted comedy about someone who was all about shooting up heroin and the show’s point was ‘hey, she’s just doing her thing, what a whacky and fun hijink to build some comedy around!’ would you

I don’t have an issue with people who are overweight- i have an issue with people who are actively trying to convince others that being overweight is good and they should embrace it- even though we know of the many health issues that being overweight contributes to. I consider that anti-science, anti-health attitude

i agree that weight is not the only determinate of health- if you’re a skinny dude because you smoke 3 packs a day and eat only big macs, you’re probably worse off than someone carrying an extra 15 lbs but who eats a diverse diet that is low in processed foods.

but there is also a big difference between someone who

maybe. but i’m not wrong.

so like.... we all know this person is going to die relatively young, likely after years of painful complications (that they likely will be unable to treat properly, given the poor state of health care in the US) and likely in a painful manner, right?

to me this is like someone told you they were an alcoholic but had

if harry reid was willing to hand out federal funds for years for someone to spew nonsense, i’d have done it for a fraction of what this bigelow guy was asking

even better you can apparently smoke pringles. this actually doesn’t surprise me

yeah, i had that same feeling- did they just have some BBC sets sitting around from something that they decided to re-use?

are you implying that the trump administration missed an obvious win? that would never happen, those guys are so on the ball!

yeah, its just me. nobody else is saying it:

trying to claim that something can’t be propaganda because it offers some very mild criticism of what its reveling in is what they want- you’ve fallen into their strategy while also thinking you haven’t and you’re literally fighting to defend the airforce on the internet!

you are why they spent the money- you’re

i mean, at this point if you’re ok watching a supposedly pro woman movie that was partially funded by an organization that does not give a shit about women because the movie has some very gentle throw away criticism of itself because you just want to watch a movie that you want to watch, then go for it.

but don’t give

i noticed you carefully avoided saying whether or not you’re ok with the US military funding a film about a time when they were also covering up sexual assault and rape by trying to parse whether you think it supports or doesn’t support the military based on your subjective take.

spoiler alert- i saw the damn thing. i

the US military does not provide access to US equipment for movie makers who make movies that the military views as dragging it. they have a strict rule set on that- so everything in this film that involves the military was vetted by and was approved by the airforce. they allow a certain level of individual commentary

so it does not bother you that the airforce gave disney money to make the airforce look good- which, it generally does. airplanes look cool as hell, everyone involved is like ‘man, the airforce is really cool’ and they all are fist pounding and being awesome in cool airplanes.

and the one part you highlight- ‘oh, they

i would say all of the parts where the airforce seems like its super awesome and being full of clunky airforce hardware porn?

we just heard testimony from a sitting US senator- who was literally the first woman allowed to fly combat missions, like this movie talks about- that she was raped by a superior officer in her

i’m still kind of disturbed by how closely this movie worked with the air force. disney’s monopolistic scummery had always been something that made me uneasy about them, but now they’re taking money from the armed forces to make them seem good? that is straight up propaganda and we should all know better at this point

yeah i was wondering that too- the avengers movies are *huge* in china. i was there for a month for work when the last avengers premiered in the US but not quite yet in china and everyone was going nuts to avoid spoilers. knowing disney these days i bet they just cut the scene from the chinese release.
