we're counting meteorologists as scientists now? might as well let phrenology back in i say!

The Thing is only slightly about scientists- of the group only 2-3 of the people are scientists. the rest are the support staff who keep the place functional. we really only ever see blair do anything science related.

or star wars if we're being honest. 'not george lucas' wasn't a high bar to clear and JJ only barely squeaked over it

are you honestly telling me that if you had the power to maybe start a war, you wouldn't at least try?

i'd like to think he just over shares on these projects way too early in the process of getting them set up, but the impression i've received over the years of seeing 'GDT's such and such is not being made anymore…' headlines is that the guy can. not. budget. he seems to pitch these 500 million dollar ideas on movies

its actually a fun action show. i watched a few episodes on a whim and found myself impressed- the one thing that they did with that show was not make the plots dependent on the stupidity/ignorance of the main characters.

isn't the actual baseball viewing audience composed heavily of older white men? Seems like that wouldn't be a prime demo for a drama show looking to sell advertising dollars

purpose built, air gapped, tested and proven reliable for decades and impossible to remotely sabotage/hack into? seems like a pretty good idea to me?

jackson, the guy who wimped out when given the opportunity to hunt his own rebellious VP down and hang him? low energy. sad.

eh, without the US supplying them, they'd have been out of the war within the second year, so call it a wash

that was probably the worst AAA game trailer i have ever seen- it looked more like someone made a parody youtube video titled 'what if activision marketed the original COD like it marketed its current CODs?' and we all had a good laugh picking apart each 'pretends its gameplay but is an interactive cut scene,'

james bond seems like a huge gorilla in that particular room

because what you described sounds expensive and their idea involves mostly re-usable sets and locations

you should pop into the next jimmy fallon thread and share your opinion, i think people would appreciate it

it reminds me of 'your highness' way too much

the types of people who post this sort of stuff would be hard pressed to read anything more complicated than a tweet, let alone understand the complicated relationship of racial groups in latin and south america.

oh man, i've been listening to the 'Our Fake History' podcast (which i can not recommend enough if you enjoyed 1491 or history in general) about that exact book and he is ripping it to pieces. its delightful

i would recommend reading 1491 and 1493- without getting into the depth of it, its a very accessible re-examination of the histories of the americas, based on modern research. one of the big things it posits is that the amazon- which was considered a tract-less wasteland populated by subsistence people- was actually a

montreal, buddy- you've got the smoked meat thing to call your own. maybe quit while you're winning?

I really, deeply enjoyed the book this is based on, although more than a bit of it was that i inadvertently read it as a companion piece to '1491'. the tragedy of fawcett as this man ahead of his time, who intuited something that was laughed at until actual satellites finally confirmed his theory on the grandest scale
