Tiya Sircar as Vicki was fantastic on this show & while she never quite got the spotlight she deserved (due mostly to getting cast in other things) that was oddly perfect for the character, who always complained that her role should have been bigger. If you have a Ferrari, you don’t keep it in the garage!

When she was finally released, her finishing the line she was speaking when she was cocooned killed me.

If Vicky doesn’t have time to regenerate into a slug monster, teenage boy, social media CEO, etc. before this show ends, then farewell to Tiya Sircar’s wonderful run on this show. I know she spent a whole season in a cocoon, but I love how the writers kept finding ways to bring her back into the fold. She was nefarious

So what happened to Glenn? Did they just left him behind in The Bad Place after he helped them and betrayed Shawn? Although only the one Bad Janet knows that so maybe he can claim Michael goo’ed him first and then be the Soul Squad spy.

More trans Michael: literally taking down a photo of the old you and talking about how much it hurts to look at it, and being afraid of the people you knew “before” still seeing you the same old way.

I think the episode delivered its lesson beautifully. It’s shown us the characters’ growth. They are confronted with their past selves and their dissatisfaction, and even shame, with who they used to be. And then told them it’s OK because their desire to change and grow made them so much more than their past. And even

Thanks, I would have never guessed that:

Sadly not a reanimated Divine.

There’s no reason to be upset given that the purpose of these various cameras and such is to improve public safety, so a phone warning should produce the same result. Unless law enforcement wishes to admit that these devices are actually about revenue generation and not safety...

I don’t think V wants Eve to be a “scared” “mess.” She just completely misread her. She thinks they are the same, that Eve wants to kill and just needs a little motivation. V wants Eve to feel empowered (as much as her controlling psychopathic self can). “You made us safe,” she says.

Given that the writing staff of Game of Thrones has been entirely male since about Season 2, I believe, and I was pretty much quoting Ellis verbatim in that particular passage, I think perhaps you doth protest too much, and too loudly.

I agree with Ellis’ critique of women in Hollywood in general (and love her videos in general as well) and I think that has partly informed what’s going on in Game of Thrones - oh, these are the cool characters women can relate to. But with Dany theres a complication of it right there, because Dany obviously

Lindsay Ellis had a fantastic point in her autopsy of The Hobbit trilogy when she noted that, while there is a spectrum of women’s representation in fantasy, from what is essentially gender-as-nonissue-equality in something like Skyrim, to depictions like the ASOIAF book series where misogyny is not only assumed, but

Considering GoT takes place in some fantasy-realm (I mean, Westeros and King’s Landing and all that other shit isn’t SUPPOSED to be in jolly ole’ England, is it?), that excuse is even more dumb.

This is what happens when you hand off the TV rights to two guys solely because they figured out a plot point on the first try.

This was fantastic. This kind of thoughtful, long-form analysis that explore different angle than every other thinkpiece out there is what made me fall in love with A.V. Club in first place. Also, someone told me if me got enough upvotes, me would get free cookie! Me still waiting for that cookie...

Martin’s own world building is not exactly “accurate” (magic aside) as a reflection of the medieval societies he draws on - for one thing there seems to be way more child marriage in ASOIAF, I think, than in real life though it wasn’t unheard of - but one of my complaints about how the show reinterpreted the books is

Similarly, the idea that the Middle Ages were just white people everywhere as an explanation for lack of diversity (and that most of the non-white characters near the end were just murderous barbarians) is also not reality based: https://twitter.com/medievalpoc

Yeah I keep needing to remind myself that Wuntch is still a good cop and that her feud is with Holt and not the 99 at large. I hope this sets the stage for an evolution of the Holt/Wuntch dynamic. I’d love to see them have more genuine moments of respect for each other’s legacies and their past friendship.

I really thought we were going to see a Vanjie/Silky lip sync because Silky was a mess (again.) The hand of the producer is so evident this season that’s its making the episodes borderline unwatchable.
