The outpouring of assistance during this evac is heartening, particularly for animals. Nearby sites that are safe have opened their fairgrounds / barns / fields / whatever to take in animals that otherwise couldn’t go with their owners to a motel or shelter.

SacBee just reported that the main spillway was not further damaged by the increased outflows, so good news there. They’re prepping the patch for the aux spillway now. Hopefully people can return home soon.

Some of the reporting is not providing the entire picture of what’s happening. LA Times got it wrong this morning when it reported that the damaged main spillway was not being used. Also, it’s not the main spillway hole they’re concerned about right now. I’m in the area (safe, high ground) and have been watching since

Just commented upthread about this! English major here, and it is truly cringeworthy.

I can’t handle her word salad. It hurts my brain to try and decipher this.

The only thing I’ve seen him in was The Night Manager. And I loved that series.

My reaction as well. But consider this: in Orwell’s 1984, the protagonist Winston Smith who works at the Ministry of Truth (where he rewrites history) received a news item that was deemed “necessary to alter” -- in the narrative, he mentions that the alteration is officially known as “to rectify.”  Coincidence?

Kmart has name brands for less money. That’s it. I go to the local one to buy my preferred brands of cat litter ($3 less than Target), toilet paper ($2 less), shampoo ($3 less) -- you get the idea. I put up with the mothball smell and the stark customer experience because I’ll save bucks getting the necessary

He’s done though. Either on this job or after it. As a spokesperson, he’ll never work for a reputable company / organization again. As a communications professional, you cannot blatantly lie and expect to survive in this business.

Don’t know - this is the first I’d heard that her TODAY contract wasn’t renewed.

I don’t watch at home, but it’s on my hotel tube when I travel. I find the light banter somewhat soothing when I’m away. Will have to find something else now.

I want to see the reaction to this loony statement from last night’s train-wreck:

Unsteady by X Ambassadors. I didn’t much pay attention to this song before November, but it was the stuck in my head as I was trying to sleep / determine what happened to reality the night of the election. Now when it plays, it conjurs feels similar to post-breakup. And, somehow, that’s fitting.

Definition of trumpery

1. 1a : worthless nonsense b : trivial or useless articles : junk <a wagon loaded with household trumpery — Washington Irving>
2. 2 archaic : tawdry finery

Trumpery derives from the Middle English trompery and ultimately from the Middle French tromper, meaning “to deceive.”

I kinda wanted someone else to be named just to see him have an epic Twitter meltdown.

Not just who prepares the food but also who picks and packs it. Trump wants to deport all illegals. Who does he think picks his lettuce and strawberries? Ain’t no right-winger white boy willing to do that work. Oh, maybe those are the jobs he’ll bring back to ‘murica.

Wash with qualifications: I had a BF that thought he was doing me a kindness by washing first. Years later, I figured out he was washing -- but with the same damp washcloth that he had used that morning after shaving. So washing = yes. Washing with a fresh cloth = yes. Using the bacteria-laden, probably-still-damp one

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-in Cream. On the drugstore “premium” shelf, it’s only about $7. My hair is long, wavy and fine. This reduces the frizzes and leaves it very soft.

A peanut allergy isn’t ‘normal.’ It’s life-threatening. Anaphylaxis caused by ingesting peanut protein by an allergic person can cause death if not immediately treated. It’s not at all comparable to taking a Zyrtec to clear your sinuses.
