I'd assume that the stuff from the touch screens would be unable to bend (no realistic hands,) wear out faster, and not be as precise, but at the same time be cheaper and easier to replace.

That shaft is a stiff wire, so it will only bend.

Alternatively, this setup costs only a rubber band, a piece of cardstock or construction paper, a pencil, and a few staples.
