Exactly. Fuck the "I'm fiscally conservative derp derp, I don't hate women and minorities." explanations for voting for the GOP. These are the kind of horrible heartless people you are putting in positions of power. These fuckers will campaign on jobs and the economy but THIS kind of fuckery is all they actually

So, should women of childbearing age consider this in preparing their advance directives? Like, I'm thinking of my personal case - my husband and I prepared living wills a few years ago after a horrible, messy end of life care situation with his grandmother. Our directives are pretty explicit about not wanting any

Came to say the same thing. I am so appalled at what this family went through, and filled with absolute admiration for their willingness to keep this in the public eye and fight for justice for themselves and others, during an unimaginably painful time.

"The child made no acknowledgement of her father's sad words. She had never acknowledged anything, nor had she eaten or breathed unassisted. She was alive and nothing more, which was good enough for the politicians that forced her into existence."

One more thing that bothers me about this is that anti-abortion folks talk about the life of the unborn but never stop to consider what kind of life an unborn is living inside of a dead body. How does this not register as some kind of creepy science experiment? The body starts to decay regardless of life support,

It's insane that this is necessary and it will be even more insane when the voters of Texas reject it en masse. I can't even begin to have the vaguest glimmer of hope that this is going to get anywhere in Texas; it's Texas.

"Also, you have no idea what I'm saying because you were born profoundly deformed and died with minutes."

I am just curious how a fetus legally gets rights in this country when everything I've read regarding US citizenship talks about having been born. I have yet to find anything within citizenship law (and I'm not claiming to be an expert, I am legit curious) that stipulates having been conceived or gestated in the US.

Yet another reason why people who don't have even a basic grasp of science shouldn't be allowed to legislate complicated medical issues.

"Hey sweet child, I just wanted to tell you the story of your mother. She was a beautiful, brave woman, and she died just for you. Those nice people kept her body alive for months just so you could be born! Even though she was already dead! Isn't that a wonderful story? Did I mention you don't have a mother because

I like your angry post better than my circumspect one.

First: I think I'm grouchy because I'm having post oral surgery pain and trying not to depend on the meds. BUT:

Still waiting to understand what an attorney for a fetus actually does. Can he decide what is best for his client? How does the client consent to that? What are the fees? Does the fetus pay them?

Marlise's husband was sent the bill. No insurance company will pay to keep a braindead person alive for that extended period of time. If it was actually the taxpayers being expected to foot the bill, or the people who want these women to stay on ANH and a ventilator indefinitely, their tune would change mighty quickly.

I typed 5 responses, deleted them all and gave up. If you still vote Republican at this point you are effectively casting a vote for the end of the American dream. Yout are owned, don't you know that?

On the verge of a rage stroke because it is going to take a piece of legislation to make this happen....and only maybe because knowing those evil fuckers in the Texas Lege they won't support it. Jesus fucking christ. Why don't we have sovereignty over our fucking bodies and healthcare decisions?

One of the things I always wonder is who has to pay for the hospital bills of keeping the person on life support in this situation? It's sick enough that you're ignoring someone's advanced directive, forcing their family to face their loss for longer than necessary, but then also sticking them with bill? Argghhh just

Munoz's family are fucking heroes, fighting the good fight.

JFC, give the "we're pregnant" trope a rest. It's pregnant women. Pregnant women. Not pregnant "people." Only women get pregnant. Only women agonise in the weeks and days after a sexual assault to find out if they're pregnant. Only women get pregnant after being raped. Only women are violated by being kept on life

It's astonishing that this abundantly reasonable bill and the absurd dystopian nightmare of Krause's bill co-exist in the same state at the same time. Fingers crossed that sanity beats crazy just this once.
